How long will it take us to drive from Burbank Airport to DL on a Sunday afternoon?

We are looking at flying into either LAX or Burbank and I would rather fly into a small airport. Unfortunately, Ontario is out of the question at this point because we are using awards miles and the flight times are too late for our plans.

I haven't flown into Burbank, but judging from my drive down I5 on my way to DL, I'd say it's just over an hour. I'm sure some southern CA people can give you a better idea.

What about Longbeach? I think that airport would be closer than Burbank?? NOt sure.:confused3

We tried Long Beach. Long Beach is closer but is not a non-stop flight flying out of PDX. We would have to fly out of SEA which is about 2 1/2 hours north of us.

Barring any accidents, it should take about an hour to an hour and a half. Mind you, I do not know if you are coming in on a holiday weekend or not. There will be the usual slowing at freeway intersections and passing through downtown Los Angeles. There is also the usual slow down of the 5 Fwy south of the 605 Fwy (don't ask me why but it always slows down there). On a good day it will be closer to the hour mark.

Enjoy!

Granted it was a long time ago, but I used to live in SoCal and use both airports.

Honestly, I don't know why people make such a big deal about LAX on this board. Unless you are flying on a major holiday, it isn't bad. And, it is a general horseshoe shape - nothing crazy and loopy like JFK back east. LAX is a lot closer than Burbank. The last time I flew there, 2002, we were still happy that it seemed to be the same as when I was a road warrior and flew in and out of there every week in 1994.

We will be flying home on July 3rd so leaving could be a problem. Burbank sounds like a nice little airport but the drive to DL could be a deal breaker. Thanks for all the replies!

We flew into Burbank during Thanksgiving. We were able to make it to DL in about 1 hr 15 minutes (at about 1:00 pm on a Tuesday afternoon). Going back on the day after Thanksgiving we made it in about 50 minutes.

On Sunday February 11th it took about 55 minutes (we left at 10:30 am).
Hope that helps.

I flew into Burbank in late Sept during rush hour, and even then it took us about 90mins. We drove home Sunday mid morning, and we made great time about an hour and a half but that was coming from San Diego, so about an hour or less from Anaheim. Sunday is the best time to drive the freeways in LA.

On another note, we have flown into Orange County and its so close so why Burbank??

:tinker:

Do you mind me asking where you are located at? It sounds like you are not too far from me. We are going out of SEA and flying into Orange County.

Why Burbank?

We are using miles to purchase one of the tickets and it had better flight times (a.m.) than flying into SNA (p.m. only). If we fly into SoCal in the morning, we can arrive on a Sunday and have a whole afternoon and evening in the park. If we fly into SoCal in the evening, we will need to fly in on a Saturday night and will have to pay for another night of lodging. SNA is still an option as we haven't made our ressies yet but we really want to arrive on a Sunday morning to avoid an extra night of lodging.

Where am I?

Southwest Washington. We have thought about flying out of SEA but the drive is too far versus flying out of PDX (2 hrs. vs. 45 mins.).

Thanks to everyone for all the help and suggestions! It is very much appreciated!

I actually grew up in Burbank and usually it is our starting point for our disney trips since my sister lives there and we go together... I have made it to DL from Burbank in as little as 40 minutes. Not even speeding! Sunday's are a good day to go south on the 5. As long as traffic behaves and there aren't any incidents, you should be able to go easily down the 5 and get there in under an hour... I used to go around the backway on the 210 and head down the 57, but lately it hasn't been worth the trouble. The 5 has been much better. The earlier you arrive the better...
