Bunks in rooms with murphy bed

We will be sailing in a Family Oceanview Stateroom with Veranda. My understanding is that most of these rooms have the overhead bunk as well as a murphy bed. We are a family of 4. On our first cruise we were in a smaller cabin category and they pulled down the bunk. On our last cruise we were in a room with the murphy bed, so they opened that for my youngest son. My son thought sleeping in the bunk was much more fun! Our stateroom attendant didn't ask which bed we wanted fixed up, and we didn't think to ask. Do they automatically use the murphy bed in rooms that have them? Can we request to use the bunk instead? Added bonus would be it wouldn't block access to the veranda.

I've never had a problem asking to have the bunk down. I actually request for them to leave the bunk down as my kids like to nap, read, watch tv etc in the bunks. Otherwise they put them up each day.

Not all rooms in that category have both the bunk and the murphy bed. I believe it's possible to have a murphy bed and not a bunk, and vice-versa. If you are cruising on the Dream or Fantasy, you can look up your stateroom this thread to see what beds will be in your stateroom. You can always ask your stateroom host to prepare the bed(s) your family prefers.

Enjoy your cruise!

We don't prefer to use the Murphy as it gets in the way of access to the veranda and my youngest two prefer to share the lower bunk with my older kid on the top bunk. May not work forever but for now it's a big space saver!

I think if you have the bunk, just ask. DCL likes to accommodate their guests. I would think it would not be a problem.

We missed the Murphy Bed on the Dream Concierge a few years ago. They only have a double sofa bed and the bunk in the family stateroom. My older sons did not want to share a bed. So, the stateroom host set up a bed on the floor for one of them with the cushions. It worked but it was tight. It was only a 3 night cruise, so we worked with it....plus it was Concierge, which was fabulous.
