Bunk Beds vs. loft beds

My twins are 5, and I'm planning on moving dd7 into their room, and ds5 into her room. Their beds are bunkbeds, but used as twins, because I didn't want a 4 year old in the room with bunkbeds - an accident waiting to happen. I don't think they recommend bunkbeds for children under 6.

My 4 and 6 year old sleep in a University Bunk Bed. They have been in it for 2 years.

We got this set because it can grow with them. We have it set up now so the bottom bunk is just off the floor and the top bunk is about 4 1/2 feet high over it(its the height of a captain style bed) and it has rails. Its set up so the beds are perpendicular to each other.

When they are older we can move both up to a normal top bunk height, or they can go one over the top like a normal bunk bed.

The set up in the picture actually is set up with 3 beds.

I am hoping this weekend(we have been meaning to do this for sometime now) to move them both up to captain style height and they can put our futon under it. I think they will like that.

WHO WILL BE MAKING THE BED AND CHANGING THE SHEETS? I was so thankful the day my DS decided he didn't want his bunkbeds anymore, I was almost giddy!!! Please, whatever bed you decide to purchase -- climb up on it first and see what it's like to maintain it. And especially try the ladder with bare feet. You'd be amazed how painful some of them are to get in and out of the top bunk (especially the metal rungs!). Good luck with your decision. :goodvibes
