How hard is it to get a room with bunk beds at the Grand Californian? My kids would be really bummed if we can't get a room with bunk beds. They hate sleeping together!

They are plentiful. I'd make sure the request is on the reservation.

Just FYI, we received a bunk bed room last time when we had requested a 2-Queen room. The bunk room was very cramped, especially with the trundle pulled out, and and the bunk beds were rather uncomfortable so we switched the next night a 2 queen room - what a difference! The 2 queen room also had a good sized daybed in it that my daughter said was more comfortable than her bunk. I don't know if that room type is much bigger but it felt so much more open than the bunk room. It was great!

We had a bunk bed room and it was great!! Plenty of room, we did not feel cramped at all and the kids loved having bunk beds to sleep in. We didn't request them, when I made the reservation the CM said "we have a bunk bed room available for your stay, I'm going to put you there if that's OK" and it was so I said "OK". :) With only 1 queen bed there was plenty of room for the kids bags and toys to be.

Thanks for all the good info! I didn't realize that the rooms had a daybed also. That might actually work out better for us. My sons are 14 and 11 and the 14yo is 5'8", and the 11 yo is 5'1".

Am I mistaken or is the GCH without a "suite" w/ a bunk bed? The price scares me first, but second is the fact that all 4 of us would be in the same room...my kids sleep best w/o an audience, LOL!

We got a bunk for our 1 night last Sept. ~ when I checked in (early) I was told we'd have 2 Qs ~ I re requested (had done so when I made the reservation I think) bunks and we got 'em.

Your 14 yr old would probably not be comfortable in the bunk bed. The last time we had one, my son was 11 and I figured it would be the last time he would fit comfortably. I would request the 2 Q + daybed.

I have sayed in both rooms with 2 Queens and rooms with bunk beds and none of them had a daybed. I think rooms with daybeds are few and far between.

We loved having a room with bunk beds for our family of 4.

IIRC the room we were in w/bunks had a trundle under the bottom bunk. No daybed tho

We had a bunk bed room when we stayed at the GCH a year ago with our two daughters who don't like to share a bed. I had requested it when I made the reservation and then politely reminded them at check in. It was great and they enjoyed it. We even hung a sheet on one side of the bunk to give a little privacy between our bed and theirs. I hope you are able to get one!

Just to echo another poster:

ALL the 2Q rooms do NOT have daybeds. They save those for parties of 5, HOWEVER, they can also put a party of 5 in a 2Q room with NO daybed, and will only offer a SLEEPING BAG. If you look at the fine print on the reservation, it will say "all rooms accommodate 4...some rooms accommodate 5 with a daybed or sleeping bag.

If you have YOUNG kids, the bunk beds are great. Especially, if you only have a total party of 4. The bunk beds take up way less space (you can push it up against the wall to increase floor space). But, they are small. They are twin sized, but have a head and footboard, as well as an "all the way around" railing on the top, so sleeping space is limited.

Do all the bunkbed rooms have a trundle? I'm just curious if that would sleep three total. I am glad someone pointed out the sleeping bag... Now I'm reconsidering the hotel.

Does anyone know if any of the new GC Villas have bunkbeds?

Thanks!

No. The studio is queen/queen sofa bed. The 1 & 2 bedroom's additional sleeping is queen sofa bed and a twin murphy bed that pulls down from the TV cabinet. We just stayed there and my son (who is now 14) loved the murphy bed.

I would be so pissed if I paid that much to stay at GCH and someone ended up in a sleeping bag on the floor, lol!

That happened years ago to someone I knew. He came from England during Christmas, and was given a room with 2 queens and a sleeping bag for a family of five. The hotel was booked solid, and he had paid for a theme park view room, and I think the only other room available was standard view room, which he did not want. I'm not sure if the hotel would have given him any credits. I do remember he was hopping mad, and the staff was not very helpful. But, like I said, this was many years ago.

Are the GC standard rooms smaller than the DLH ones? We will have 5 people and maybe a baby, so room size is important.

I've never actually stayed at the GCH, but I was told that under no circumstances could I have more than 5 people in a standard room, even with a baby. I was going to book a couple of days there for my upcoming trip, but no way can I afford to stay in a suite there. On the DL website, the occupancy for their suites says 5, but you can have 6 people in those rooms.

My brother was told exactly the same thing last year, 5 to a room that size. The GCH standard rooms are a bit smaller rooms than the DLH. Not much room for the 4 of us last year.
