I just tried to book a room at AKL, but all that was left in my category was standard view or bunk bed in other views. We have a 2yo and my gut is screaming danger danger danger to bunk beds, but we really want savannah view. For now I booked a standard view, but when I got off the phone I was disappointed and we really prefer a savannah view. Is my gut right, or anyone feel they are less dangerous than I think? My 2yo is fearless and a climber which is why I am worried. TIA!

You could get bed rails and put them on the bottom bunk for sleeping, unless you think he'd climb in the middle of the night.

Did you try Kidani studios?

I stayed in a bunk bed room at WL with my 2.5 year old. I was definitely nervous. She slept in a crib and her siblings had the bunk. We just had to watch her carefully and set firm rules. No top bunk without a sibling up there. I wouldn't say absolutely not, but don't leave her, like say to step onto the balcony, which you could do in a room without a bunk. The other thing to consider is that the bunks make the room feel darker. I wouldn't book a bunk unless I was using them, but I also don't care about views. I am editing to add that my toddler made it out okay. I am very cautious with a possible fall situation, as I fell out of a second story window as a toddler myself. I think I have a reasonable fear because of it!

Thanks! We did try both Kidani and Jambo villas as well, but no availability with a savannah in our discount unless it's a bunk. He usually sleeps well, but given a second he would be up climbing. If he woke up he would try it for sure. He's my little daredevil, and totally fearless!

Thanks! I never would have thought about the lighting issues. Great point! He has been out of a crib for over a year due to his climbing, so he always makes me think about safety. Although I don't plan for him to be out of my sight I also wouldn't put it past him to try it if he woke up during the night.

Not to scare you, but our 4 yo fell out of the top bunk in the middle of the night at a local hotel (not Disney). She had never been in a bunk bed before but had never fallen out of her bed before either. I was very nervous about her being in the bunk bed but chalked it up to being too darn over protective. Until we were awakened by a loud thud and crying. Scared the (word I can't use on Dis boards) out of us. We are actually in that hotel right now as a matter of fact but NOT a bunk bed room. Luckily she was not at all hurt which was a miracle because the bunk was over my head so at least 5 1/2 feet high. I chalk that up to her having been fast asleep when she fell. But there was a desk right next to the bed and if she had hit that, I shudder to think. I don't know. Thousands of people use bunk beds and have no problems but if you're nervous about it, I'd pay attention to that inner voice.

Disney makes the bed with a built in rail so you can't roll out of them. You have to climb thru the opening at the foot of the bed to get into it. This picture is animal kingdom lodges beds but all Disney resort bunks are built like this. Mousekeeping has a key to unlock the rails so it folds down to help in making the bed then locks them back into place.

I found all these photo with a search. None are mine.

We stayed at the WL in a bunk bed room with my 4yr old and my 2yr old. My 2yr gets into everything, she climbed the ladder a couple times and got yelled at and that was the end of that. She slept on the bottom bunk with the guard rails we requested and she was fine.

Did your 4 year old sleep in the top bunk? We are booked in a bunk room at AKL. My son will be 5 1/2 and is very excited about the top bunk. My three year old can sleep on the bottom and then the kids do not have to share a bed.

Yes, he loved it, and he literally does flips in his sleep and he was totally fine on the top bunk.
