buncha random questions 'bout DL rides...

Astro orbitor- Are these the old rocket jets? Is there a height restriction? This was open when we were there last week, to me its just Dumbo with jets instead of elephants there isnt a height restriction as far as I know

Matterhorn- The minimum height is only 35". Do you think it would be too scary/bumpy for a (not quite) 3 year old? Like others have said it will depend on your child, my 2 1/2 yr old LOVED it when we were there last fall

Splash Mountain- Why do they have a 40" height restriction? Isn't it just floating around in a "log" boat? I think my son would LOVE it. Just trying to understand why the height restriction. I am guessing its because of the big drop at the end, too. My 4 1/2 yr old HATED the ride, not so much for the ride parts but the getting wet ruined her day so be prepared with dry clothes or a poncho

Toontown- What all is here? Minnie and Mickey and *always* there? And you can get pictures with them? I have a 3 year old, 4 year old, and 5 year old. How much time should we plan on spending here? There are fun little houses to explore and lots of characters to meet, my kids like Mickey and Minnies houses a lot, Mickey is always at his house I think but the other characters just show up

Roger Rabbits Car Toon Spin- From what I can see, it looks a lot like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride? yey or ney? My dd LOVED this ride this time, she hasnt seen the movie and called it the "white rabbit" ride

Gadget’s Go Coaster- What age group is this aimed towards? This is a super short roller coaster, my kids like it but its a long wait for a 20 second ride IMO

Finding Nemo- The old submarine ride was never one of my top favorites. However we're BIG Nemo fans, but just wondering if we should wait for this ride. How does it compare to the old ride? I rode with dh when we were there in the fall, I didnt like it but I have heard there is an above ground veiwing of the ride movie which might be better then being packed in like sardines in can

Sleeping Beauty's castle- I've been monitoring the rides and I've noticed there is frequently a wait for this. I don't remember there being anything in the castle on previous visits. What kind of attraction is here?? Like others have said its a cute walk through (with lots of stairs) with scenes from Sleeping Beauty, I have never seen a wait when we have been there

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh ride- Again.... I don't remember this one. What is it like? Its a super cute ride but very loud

Autopia- If you're under 54", can you still drive the vehicle as long as there is somebody over 54" in the car with you? Meaning... can my 39" son drive if I'm next to him? Yep, my kids sat in the "drivers" seat so they could steer (the cars are on tracks so its safe to let your little ones drive you) and I pushed the pedal from the "passenger" seat

For the "scary" ones, we watched the YouTubes for an idea...he could see the abominable snowman and knew what to expect. It didn't surprise him with the glowing red eyes and "raaaaaaaaar". KWIM? Plus, hubby and I then knew where it would be in the ride to warn him like, "Oh, remember this is where that silly hairy guy eyes. Let's roar back at him".

That was our tip. He loved everything...Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain, Matterhorn...all of it. We leave on Sunday to go back and we've already looked at the Tower of Terror stuff since he didn't go on that one last time (we ran out of time). He's looking forward to "The Haunted Hotel". :)

One note about the Matterhorn -- I took my 2.5 yr old daughter on it last year because she was tall enough and wanted to go on a "roller coaster" like big sis. It is very jerky but she loved it. My trick: I told her she had to say hi to my friend Yeti in the ride. I told her that he looks scary but is really nice and that he tries to say hi to people and they all think he is roaring at them. I also told a CM in line that my daughter was so excited to meet my friend the Yeti and he played along and said, "oh, you mean Ralph -- he is my friend too". Then we had no issues during the ride and she kept waving and saying hi to my "friend". She still thinks the ride is called "Your Friend Yeti"...

Astro orbitor- Are these the old rocket jets? Is there a height restriction? I thought this was being remodled/shut down...I heard some rumors to this effect, anyone know for sure?
Astro Orbitor had a 2-month refurb last year (April 20 - June 12, 2009).

Matterhorn- The minimum height is only 35". Do you think it would be too scary/bumpy for a (not quite) 3 year old?
Here's my 2 cents:

For an almost-3 y/o, I would wait until the latter part of your trip to try the Matterhorn.

If your almost-3 y/o does well on the other dark rides and the rides that have movement, then he or she will probably be fine on the Matterhorn.

Does the Roger Rabbit ride actually involve spinning? I don't want my dh to puke....

Yes but you control it, it has a wheel in the car, if you hold it still the ride is more like Mr. Toads.

Matterhorn: Depends on the kid. If he likes roller coasters and is over the height limit, go for it. It's a bit rough with the sudden turns but not "wooden coaster" rough with the chipped teeth. For some reason, the Yeti scares the crap out of me every time.

Splash Mountain: You're just floating around in a log until the final plunge. That's probably the part that gets the tall restriction. I got over the wet rides a long time ago. There's nothing fun about walking around with soggy underwear. Unless it's over 90 degrees, be glad you can avoid it for now. :)

Toontown: The houses are fun to go through and most of the major characters will be there in the morning/afternoon. If you wait until evening, you'll miss some of them.

Roger Rabit: The riders determine the spin (if any) of the car and it's cranked pretty tight so even two big guys trying their best to spin it fast would get tired long before they got dizzy.

Finding Nemo: The seats are narrower than anything on a regional airline but I haven't seen the lines over 40 minutes lately and usually 15-20 in the evening. Definitely worth 20 minutes or so.

Winnie the Pooh: a.k.a. Pooh's acid trip. I think it really belongs in Fantasy Land. Look up and behind you towards the end to see what happened to the critters they displaced. (I think you can also see this part from the train but I could be wrong.) It's a cute ride and lets you out next to (or in) arguably the best souveneir shop in the park.
