Bumped From Reservation

Trying not to pout. Birthday weekend girlfriends, no kids, 1 bed VGF trio planned for months. Got a call from member services that my room wasn’t available and the only option was to move to Riviera.

I do not love Riviera. We only planned one park evening at MK and 2 of my party have ECVs. This is just such a bummer and is going to be such a hassle.

I was told we were bumped because they bump the newest reservation. I understand that things happen but I was bumped on our spring trip as well.

The only consolation that member services had was that I wouldn’t be charged additional points for the change. Geez! I should hope not.

Anyway, help me make the best of this bad situation. Why should I love the “Florida special room” we have been assigned? Bigger jetted tub? More comfortable pillows? Easy access to MK? 😜

I dont know what you mean "Florida special room"?

Also not sure why you were bumped twice? Are you booking HA rooms each time? Not sure if they verify those rooms and if you don't have your status on file they bump you more often? (Like a cruise line does)

Rivera is amazing personally. Although if you are doing MK instead of Epcot will be a pain.

Florida special rooms are a certain type of accessible room:

Florida Special Accessible Room (plus option for hearing accessibility)

This room is equipped with toilet grab bars, an open bed frame and lower toilet height.

A portable raised toilet seat is available upon request. Optional communication features for guests with hearing disabilities include: visual alarm; visual door knock/door bell alert; visual telephone call alert; a telephone with volume control; and electrical outlet near telephone jack.

So it is a accessible room.

I wonder if those rooms are more prone to needing to bump people as they are more limited in count and if one has a maintenance issue it forces them to bump people as they have no where on the resort then to move people with accessible room requirements?

This is what I am thinking?

Florida special is a type of HA room. It is actually the worst option for our group because of the low toilet being a fall hazard. We book regular rooms when we travel so there shouldn’t be a reason to give us a HA room.

I was not impressed by Riviera. 🤷‍♀️ The pool is full sun and tiny. It isn’t more convenient than monorail resorts and isn’t as lux as VGF and its amenities.

Wow. Then this is weird that you didn’t have an accessible room and got bumped.

It is to Epcot and Hollywood Studios but unfortunately you are going to MK. Riviera also has the benefit being a single bus stop with no additional stops like the MK busses do stopping at multiple resorts.

Too bad they could find you a spot at least at CCV or VWL for your stay.

You understand that Grand Floridian holds 1000 people to Riviera's 300? The pools are about half the size but you have a bunch less people at the resort.

As far as sun all 4 pools have shaded areas so I am not sure what you mean?

Points and for a regular room. We’ve been moved to a Florida special but had not reserved that originally.

This is a really weird thing because accessible rooms regardless of the location are likely to be a stepdown from the regular DVC rooms since I assume they remove things like tubs and such. Which is a great thing for those who need it but to your point not a great thing for those who might actually be hindered by these helping mechanisms like a lower toilet.

Overall not a good thing and since this is a regular room I don't exactly understand why this would even occur (especially twice).

It May be that that they have an issue with the 1 bedrooms at VGF and the only 1 bedrooms available for the dates are at RIV and that is an accessible one.

That stinks. What was the reason for being bumped in the spring?
The Animal Kingdom room was having a mold issue. Although it was time consuming it wasn’t the end of the world because they sent us back to BLT. We had a split stay planned but staying wasn’t an issue.

:( That’s stinky. Maybe DVC should change the order of the bump list.

Starting with last reservation- that’s fine. Then also check if that person has been bumped in the last year or on their last visit. If so, move up the list. For what’s hopefully a rare occurrence they should avoid bumping the same guests twice in a relatively short period or repetitively.

I agree with this. Upon finding out you were recently bumped they should have changed their plan.

Have you tried calling member services back? I personally consider the change to a Riviera HA room being a downgrade and should have moved you to a 2 bedroom or other upgrade for the troubles. I remember one time Sean was on a DVC show talking about trying to use up expiring points that he forgot about. All member services had available was a 2 bedroom so that’s what he booked but when he checked in the front desk said he should have done a grand villa because those are wide open. He got it changed but point being there may be things available that don’t show.

Can you ask to move to a different resort if you don’t like Riviera? Either CCV,
2 Poly studios, BLT, or the bungalows and somehow compromise on the points difference? We got bumped once from the bungalows into a CCV 3BD. We were extremely disappointed at the time but Disney went out of their way to make it right, and the CCV 3 was absolutely spectacular.

If it helps any, we found the food at the RIV much better than at monorail resorts especially if anyone has any dietary restrictions.
It may be worth calling guest services back and discussing this idea of not bumping someone twice this close, I would bet there are people staying at GF who would be excited to go try a new place, especially resale buyers who can't use their points there. One or two more calls and they might have a party who is thrilled about this rather than someone who is let down.

I was bumped from an 11 month made BCV one bedroom on Monday.

I was given a HA one bedroom with a tub that I cannot use. I need a walk in, not necessarily roll in. They moved us to the Yacht Club with a roll in shower with monetary compensation. We were basically in a resort studio.

Today we have been moved to a HA one bedroom in BCV with a roll in shower.

We will try to get some points back. I have been given a HA with a tub twice now in 6 months. The last time we had to accept it for one night.

Sorry to hear that. Hope all is well today :)
