Bummer....Hurricane season

to be more active than normal this year . I hope they are wrong, since we are going to Disney World in Nov. - that would be really scarey if that happens while on vacation, plus I don't want any of the coastal residents to have to go thru it!!!
I just hope its not true and its a very uneventful hurrican season. Here is the link it anyone is interested:

I'm hoping for the best. If a hurricane ruins our trip this year, we'll just have to reschedule.

But, I'm mainly hoping their predictions are wrong because of the people living in Florida and other coastal areas. I do worry about their safety during the storms.

Last year was a very slow season yet it was predicted to be very busy. I've learned not to put too much emphasis on pre-season predictions. We just prepare the same way each year and stock up.

Why am I not surprised you live in Florida? lol I was going to post the exact same thing. Yes, they're predicting this year will be more active. They did that last year, the year before, & the year before that, etc. No wonder people become complacent. I think we'd all be better off, if they'd stop with the predictions & only state facts. The guessing game just doesn't work for me.

OP, even if the season is more active, you should be safe in Nov. I wouldn't worry about it.

This is so right! I can deal with missing out on a vacation or or a few days but I feel really bad for folks who lose property, homes, or worse!

We were there a few years ago during Hurricane Jeanne (a "2" so not the most severe but still...) WDW handles the storms very well when Central Florida is involved. During Jeanne the parks were closed (of course) and everyone had to stay inside. I think they move the FW Campground folks into the values for the duration (We were at the Boardwalk). It was boring having to basically waste a day of our vacation waiting for the storm to blow over, but I never really felt like we were not safe. Afterwards some of the attractions were closed for repair but not very many. I am only really concerned for our travel days. Obviously if a storm is happening when you're supposed to be flying (or even driving, for that matter) in or out - that's a problem!

yes, hurricanes cause a lot of stress to many here in FL - myself included. I pray for a very inactive season.

Don't worry excessively over hurricanes. We'll be at BWV in October - we'll see what develops. We were at BWV in 10/05 when Wilma came through. The resort took great care of us and kept us constantly updated. No problems. Characters, music and kid crafts were going strong in the lobby and meals were provided in the convention center. The parks were closed for most of a day, but MK and Epcot were open later until midnight for resort guests.

The next day we went to Epcot and almost NO ONE was there aside from us, the cast members and a handful of guests (like maybe 30 at 1 pm). We had lunch at Chefs de France in a nearly empty restaurant (great service!). I have pictures of WS and FW without a soul in them - and not a cloud in the sky. We had the whole place to ourselves and everything was up and running.

I realize Wilma wasn't good for a lot of Floridians, but Disney sure took the sting out of it for us. If it looked like a cat 4 was bearing down to cross right over Orlando, we'd have changed our plans. It's always sad to dump a Disney vacation, but you have to be practical about your family's welfare. (Our son and DIL live in Orlando and work at WDW, so I'd be worrying about more than just our vacation.)

Though the season technically runs June through November, the odds of actually having a hurricane-strength storm strike land in November are very low. The high-risk period is August and September.

I'm saying this as a Floridian and having lived through some really "fun" storms ...

The worst thing that could happen for you personally if a hurricane were to hit during your vacation is you might loose a day. However, usually the day before and after the parks are DEAD. We came up to Peter Pan a couple of years ago as Peter and Wendy got off the ride with a family.

Like a pp stated, you'll see more CMs than you ever have in your life, b/c it will be you and just a few others in the whole park. We usually head over to Disney on a "Hurricane Day".

However, I totally agree that we're hoping for another slow season, last year was so easy. It's time to stock the water bottles and canned food and find the flashlights and batteries ... and just watch and wait.

I hope it's slow too. I'm so sick of hurricanes. We're going in September though. I'd rather be at Disney than at home in Palm Beach County if a hurricane is coming.
