Acidanthera-Called Peacock Orchids these are a form of gladiolus. This is a summer flowering bulb. They need to be dug up in the fall and stored for the winter.
I find them to be one of the prettiest of the summer bulbs. I plant the bulbs very close together in a large circle. Probably 20 bulbs in each circle. They like full sun and a rich soil mixed 50/50 peat moss. I find this to be the best mixture. They have the long glad leaves and a stem with small white flowers 1 1/2 inch across, that open one by one. They should be watered once a week with a liquid manure tea. There is a lovely maroon center to each flower and they have a sweet perfume smell.
Peacock Orchids are one of my summer favorites.
