I've been used to making room requests with my TA or directly with Disney when I make the reservation. But since this is our first reservation with DVC, I am unsure of how to go about asking for a particular building. When I made the reservation online there was no place to make that request. Is this done at the 60-day online check in or should I call member services to make the request?

There should be someplace on the website to email them - just give them the reservation # and tell them what you want. Alternatively, just call Member Services and talk with them. (I made a request about a week ago for my reservation in October over the phone, no problems.) If you do online check-in, you'll have an opportunity at that time to make some requests but I doubt (though I don't know for sure) that you can request a specific building so you'd probably end up having to email or call at that time. You might as well do it now, while you're thinking of it. :-)

I resently made my first DVC reservation also. I just made the reservation online, then called MS later in the day and requested the room and floor I wanted. I called back the next day to make sure the request was part of my reservation, and it was noted was in the reservation. Now, I have my fingers crossed that the request will happen. Good luck!

It is better if you don't actually give a room number. If that room number is not available then they will not try to put you near by. It's best to ask for things like, "near lobby", "near elevator", "upper floor, even numbered room, north side". It gives more of a general area and makes it more likely for you to get it. When staying at SSR we asked for Paddock near the bridge. That put us in the building right next to the bridge for easy walking to the main building and pool. We got it. At OKW we have asked for a specific building and gotten it.

I agree. The reason I gave particular room numbers (for better view of fireworks) was because the reservations was for VGF. The resort is so small, being close to the Elevator or lobby is not an issue.

Thanks, I really am not that picky about the exact location within a building. We'll be taking grandma on this trip and I just don't want a huge amount of walking.

The room assigner doesn't know why you gave them a particular room number. It could be the view, the distance from the back stairs, your honeymoon room, close to the ice machine, you like facing North, could be any reason.
