Buh Bye DirecTv

An update. They called yesterday. That was the third "customer retainment" person to call me. The gave me $150 credit and lowered the bill. There will probably be a discrepancy between what they told me they would charge me and what they actually do charge me. But for now, this past month and the next one are on DirecTv. And if the bills are higher than they promised, out they will go. I have a feeling a lot of people are waking up.

So hold out for that third one to call. You know what they say, third time is charm.:goodvibes

We're waiting until Directv comes out with the new Tivo/Directv/Hi def receiver. We won't upgrade until it comes out because we are more loyal to Tivo than Directv.

If it's not out by the end of the year, we're just going to go over to Ccomcast so we can use the hi def standalone Tivo.

They've been promising us for a while that it's just around the corner-we have two directv boxes "suspended" because we're not using them because there's no reason to without the hi def (we have two tv's, each in common areas).

I call and check on the Tivo merger every time they raise my rates-they raise it, I call back and say lower it back to what it was or I'm leaving (and I'm absolutely serious). We've been directv customers since 1995, on and off, so we occasionally leave for a few years when they start behaving so poorly.

Seems like quite a few companies have their heads up their heinies lately when it comes to treating loyal customers well...

The HD DirecTiVo is now slated for 1st qtr of 2010. The unit has not started field trials yet.

As far as using a Standalone TiVo with Comcast, if you go with the TiVoHD, you will need to get 3 CableCards from Comcast, and have them configured. And the monthly fee for a Standalone is higher than the DVR fee with DirecTV.

Run ALL the costs before making a change.

Just wanted to say that I've had Directv on and off for years and think the company are full liars, liars, liars. and never fullfill what they promise unless you call them every month to remind them. I bought a DVR reciever about 6 months ago through Directv. They charged me 99.00 for the reciever and 19.95 for shipping and handling. OK fine, I waited for the reciever to be delivered by the mail since I did pay 20 bucks for shipping and handling. I called to see when they were going to ship me my DVR and they told me that I needed to set up a appointment to install my DVR by their people and that the installer will have my reciever. So I asked them why did I pay shipping and handling on something that a person was bringing with him????? They tried to pull the S/H covers the costs for this and for that blah blah excuses. I told them to keep the reciever and all of a sudden they were willing to take the charge of my bill. Well they did come and install the reciever, never got the S/H charge taken off my bill and then the installer tried to take my original reciever that I own with him:scared1:???? I had my Directv account closed and they have the nerve to call and ask for the reciever back that I paid for. I keep telling them when I get the 99.00 that I paid for the reciever they will then get the DVR back. All they say is well.... we'll take this amount off your bill and you will ONLY owe this amount. The funny thing is that they keep telling me that this is going to hurt my credit, I laugh and say "Credit, what credit I don't have any credit". Poo Poo on them, I'm keeping the DVR until I see some mmoney in my pocket and not their's.

The $99 you paid was not to Purchase the receiver, only the Lease down payment. The receiver is not your property...

Which really irritates me. When I gave them the $$, they never said I didn't own the darn thing.:headache:

Imagine my surprise when they told me I had to send it back to them.

Gawd, that's awful, what a pain the whole Comcast thing is.

I wonder who we call to sign up for "field trials". I'd be VERY good at trying it out :rotfl:

I guess we just keep waiting :rolleyes1

For those that have Dish network, you can call and save some money as well. We have Dish network, and I work for them as well. Were required to do as much as we can to save customers money when they ask. If you dont like what the rep is telling you, ask to speak to someone in the Loyalty dept, and you will be more likely to get a better deal. Just saying that you want to cancel gets you right over:rotfl2:

Also I know someone had mentioned switching back and forth between companies to get the promos, I know that with Dish, once you've been a customer (no matter how long ago) you will not be considered eligible for the new cust. promo. There are 'former customer promos' but honestly not usually as good.

Just some tidbits sorta from inside:lmao: HTH

When I switched to DTV this spring to get the HD programming, I talked to the retention department at Dish and they offered me something to stay, but it wasnt nearly as low as DTV.

Dish kept telling me the price was only good for a short time and blah blah blah, but in reality even the 'non discounted price' was only $5 more than what I was paying w/Dish to have the SD package and with Direct I was getting 2 HD DVR's and a 3rd HD (non DVR) receiver.

One way to save on DTV is if you are a AAA member you can get $10 off / mo for 2 years (I htink it was) as a new customer. There is a special # to call and get that offer and not the regular DTV #.

Yeah normally what we can offer isnt as good as the new customer discounts you can get from the other competitors. Doesnt make sense to me as a customer, but Im so far down the totem pole, not really anything my fussing about it will change:rotfl2:

I am now Directv free!
I switched to AT&T U-verse! I got a great deal! First, they bought out my last 5 months of my contract. Also I didn't have to sign a contract, my price is fixed and can't go up, I am paying a lot less with my bundle than I had to pay before, I got free DVR service for 6 months, and have a lot more channels! I love the U-verse so far! you can get a small picture in picture of the other channels as you are going through the guide. You can see what's going on on other channels before you turn it-like if they're at a commercial.

They are having some good deals going on now!

We don't have AT&T U-verse in our area yet. Wah.......

Oh my. What a nightmare! I hope it all gets settled.
