Bugs!

Just be happy it isn't palmetto bugs! Nothing like a bunch of flying roaches the size of helicopters to take the joy out of a trip! lol.

sorry about the midges

We encountered hugh bugs a very long time ago during a March visit. We first noticed them at night when we were in the shops on Main Street on our way out of the park. There was a box of those rubber insects on the counter and when I looked closely one was moving. We got outside and Main Street looked like it was under bombardment by these creatures. We had to run for the monorail and the tram ride was challenging. I took several minutes for us to get up the nerve for the run from the car to the entrance of our off-site hotel. The next morning they were all laying dead in the parking lot. You could not get to the car without stepping on them. Someone said it was cricket moles and the came out of the ground because of the heavy rains FL had prior to our trip. On all our other trips to WDW I have never encountered anything again like that again.

Attractive - aren't they?

Is CR or any other lake resort like YC/BC having this problem too? I've never noticed them before on any of our November trips.

We arrive at BLT on Sunday and really hope the bugs are gone. Taking friends for their first visit and would hate to have bugs be there first impression....

It's next to The Contemporary. It's part of The DVC (Disney's Vacation Club)

Were were at the Boardwalk Villas during the timeframe of this thread, and didn't see any of these bugs at all. Occasionally in certain areas of the parts there were big groups of gnats, but those were always stationary (in that "gnat cloud" sort of way) and avoidable if you saw them in advance.

We were at BLT 11/20 - 11/27 ... and these bugs were EVERYWHERE. We saw maintenence vacuuming them up on several occasions near entry doors. They were in all hallways. Kept our sliding doors closed ...

Blech. I would not like that at all. :sad2:

I'm here now and I haven't seen any bugs. We're on the 7TH floor TPV. Haven't been down to the bus stop yet, But the walkway over to the Contemporary was clear yesterday.

I imagined they wouldn't last so long. I thought maybe a week or 2 at most and was surprised to hear they lasted longer than that.

We were lucky and didn't see these at AKV the 1st week of November. I live in mosquito heaven though so as long as they only looked like them and didn't bite like them, I guess I would deal with it. It would still not be nice to look at, but at least not painful.

We just got back from BC this past Sunday 12/4 and didn't see any bugs there. We did take a day trip over to WL and took the boat back on over to the Contemporary. I saw some long slender leggy bugs in the bathrooms by the pool. We didn't go to the BLT, but it did have a lot of birds swarming and flying around it. My guess is the birds were trying to get some snacks?
