Anyone else bugged by the 5 days for 3 deal? What if you can't go for 5 days?

Here's my situation, and I'm sure I'm not alone . . .

I'm taking my dd for her 6th birthday in February. I have an AP, but I need to purchase a 3 day parkhopper for her. Of course, I'm forced to purchase a 3-day hopper that will have an extra 2 days on it, that I can't use. Does anyone else see the potential problem here? That's 2 free days at DL/DCA that I am forced to just give up. DLR says they aren't transferrable, but I've already seen many of these "leftovers" offered on craigslist and ebay. It would be nice to just hand this to some unsuspecting person in the esplanade, but who knows if that will work with their plans?

I can't use the extra days, I can't give them away or sell them (legally) -- This creates a huge dilemma for me. . .

Just curious to hear others' take on this. :confused3

I'm bugged by the fact that I can't take advantage of the deal because my (potential) DL trip isn't until July!!!!! I'll have to buy the 5-day tickets and pay for the 5-day tickets!!!:lmao:

From my understanding, aren't you paying the 3-day price for the 5-day ticket? In that case, there's no loss (really) to you except for the fact that it kills you to waste the days in the place you love to be!!!:goodvibes

Yea, when I heard that special on the radio, I thought it was very odd. It would be nice if there was a flexible deal, where you could choose one or the other, or something like that.

Couldn't you sell your leftover days for a discount?

If she wants to be "good", legally she is not supposed to sell them because DL tickets are not transferrable to another person. I was going through the same dilema, only I decided to expand my days. I couldn't just not take advantage of those extra days, lol. And then we decided to go the AP route, and I only had to purchase a hopper for my MIL, but still we had to use those days, lol. My dilema now is taking my MIL's ticket on our last day and upgrading her ticket to my ds's AP, and if they will give me issues because it's an adult ticket and I'm getting the AP for my going to be 3 year old, and the tickets aren't supposed to be transferrable. Oh drat for the "do the right thing" dilema.

Mindy, I have been successful at using my mom's parkhopper to upgrade to an AP for my child in the past. The only issue I see is that they will ask for your son's birthdate, and then they will see that he is only 2 and would not have required admission media for the current trip. Hmmmm. . . that's does make "doing the right thing" tough, doesn't it. :rolleyes1

Why would you be upset? I am confused? There are coupons out all the time that I can't take advantage of, in fact this is one since it ends before I even arrive, I am not upset about it though.

Never used the word upset, just "bugged". I realize I'm not paying anything extra for it, so it's a perk. I'd kind of compare it to winning an extra 2 days of vacation, but not being able to use it. Wouldn't you want to be able to pass it on to someone else instead of just letting it go unused? I guess that's what's bugging me about it. It's 2 free days at Disneyland that are just hanging out there. . .

Does DLR not realize they have set themselves up for all sorts of illegal resales of unused days? That's what "bugs" me as well.

Just one question - how do they know if the ticket has been transferred?!

I'd give mine to someone in the esplanade on my last day.

No, I wouldn't be bugged and I would love to give it away if it were transferable. I totally see why disney makes them non transferrable though. I am asssuming DL is not set up like DW with the finger scans. I think the biggest issue is when people sell them but there really isn't anything left on it, thus making disney making things non transferrable. It is a shame for the honest people out there and those wanting to help others like it sounds like you would like to.

I can see why you are bugged by the deal. I'd be too. Kind of like dangling a carrot in front of a rabbit, but the rabbit can't get the carrot. :guilty: Another thing is I'd prefer a discount off the ticket price, not bonus days. Now that'd be nice!;)

But then Disney couldn't take advantage of you being in the parks an extra two days. And spending money on food, lodging and souvenirs an extra two days. They're very smart those Disney folk :)

Its too bad DL doesn't offer a no expiration option. That would solve the delimma and give them a little more $$$$

DangerMouse... you said you have an AP but you have to purchase a 3-day for your dd. Why don't you use that 3-day and apply it towards an AP for her?

My other comment (if that's not what you wanted to do - upgrade).... transferrable or not, it's done all the time. Why not just "pay it forward" as they say. What kind of bad Disney karma can come from "gifting" an unsuspecting stranger of 2 free days in the parks?

I'm more bugged by the fact that it would cost me more to go during the buy 3 get 5 promo then it would to go in May without the special!

I believe that the hand offs continue to happen then Disney will be putting the Finger Print turnstiles in place (like at WDW) so that it will be inpossible for this to happen.
