We were in Cozumel last week and the mosquitoes are HUGE and in large swarms! It you are on any tour that stops at the PEE PEE Station ( a local store that has bathrooms), put your bug spray on before you stop. These vampire-like bugs were horrible for those with no protection. The bugs also showed up late in the afternoon and evening around the ports and shops.

We carried OFF with us and it did a wonderful job. Take extra for you fellow cruisers who are begging and pleading for some to use. You will make a freind for life. A couple bought my family 2 free drinks each of us that night because we were so generous :teeth:

was this on a beach or on tulum tour ?
Hope you had a great time apart from the bug bites

And I thought the mosquitoes in jersey were bad!

You poor people! I just recently bought Avon's Bug and Sun product, Seems to be working all right for the bug portion, but I am not 100% on the sun part, since it is a clear liquid pump spray (like any other pump spray bug stuff) I am not comfortable with the sunscreen capabilities (I prefer a nice thick lotion you can see)...
But it sure smells purty:hyper:

The bugs were at the PEE PEE Station, in town, and by the pier. They got worse towards evening.

Our bug spray was a life saver. The bugs did not ruin our tour or shopping.

If you go to Tulum, I would say bug spray is a must!

We cruised last month and had zero problems with bugs at Cozumel. We did some shopping, but spent most of the day at Paradise Beach. We didn't get bitten or even see any bugs!

New Jersey people know bugs, don't we! We were in Cozumel in January and didn't notice any bugs. I'm thinking it may be seasonal. I was wondering if we would experience any in August. Has anyone used the bug spray wipes instead of spray?

I see you are from "extreme" South Jersey. Whereabouts? We are Williamstown.

Cape may county here! Not only do we have to deal with Jersey skeeters, but we have the dreaded shore flies (the green heads):cool2: :scared1:

I used to live in Houston - bugs so big there we would put saddles on 'em and ride 'em around a bunch.:duck:

Laz and the rest of you praising bug spray,

Thank you for the warning a million times over! I had forgotten how terrible the mosquitos and screaming mimis were in the tropics. :hyper:

When I lived in Puerto Rico I could not leave my house after the sun started going down without ample "eau du OFF". Despite being told I can't be allergic to mosquitos, I most definitely am. One bite can swell to the size of a silver dollar on me. When I was about 3 one bit my foot and my mom said she couldn't get my shoe on and took me to the ER. As an adult I've been bitten on the finger below my wedding rings and had trouble removing the rings afterward the bite had swollen so badly.

Thanks to these posts I have now added Bug Spray to my "Must include to pack" list.

Interesting...we were there this past week and not a bug of any sort to be seen. We stayed along the pier area and within a few blocks of the shopping district. What was annoying instead was the street and sidewalk construction along the front of all the shops that narrowed passage significantly and greatly increased the "Hola, amigo" factor.

We were in Cozumel last week as well and we didn't experience any problems with bugs either.

Hi DR & Tooty- glad to see you are all home safe!

We were also in Cozumel last week, but at Channakab Park for some snorkling and the Dolphin Swim. No bugs on the beach during the afternoon, but those who wanted to tour the other areas of the park were warned by signs to use the bug spray.

DH (drclaws) did fail to mention that the gentleman at Cozumel Sally's minigolf (Mr. Sally?) said we would absolutely need bug spray in the evening/night. He said there had been a lot of rain and the mosquitos were very large.

Hi DoomBuggie. Can we go to brunch again this week?????

Kathy

I thought that was what the iguanas were for on the course!! Rent one for the evening......

Thanks for the heads up about bringing buy spray. My family and I will be on the 7/17 Western and to be honest, that was one item I did not have on my list of things to bring. I have since read the AAA book on Cozumel and it says insect repellant is a must. Thanks again.

Some of the AVON Bug Guard has SPF and some doesn't. We've used both, but my new favorite is the AVON Expedition bug guard. It's great for traveling...it comes in a hard can (kind of like a short hairspray can) and just sprays on. Easy, portable, and not smelly. :)

I AGREE...THE BUGS WERE TERRIBLE...I WAS AT THE RUINS JUST LAST WED. WE GOT EATEN ALIVE..EVEN WITH BUG SPRAY.....OUR TOUR GUIDE TOLD US THE WEEK BEFORE THEY HAD ALOT OF RAIN THATS WHY THEY WERE SO BAD.
