Back on May 12 I took the wildlife excursion at AK. While I was taking pictures I was biten by a bug. We went to 1st aid and they gave me stuff to put on it to stop the itching but now over a month later my elbow still hurts and I have 2 earser sized bumps. Has anyone else had this happen and if so do you know what bit you? Does anyone know if those yellow flies leave marks like this? I have a doctors appt for next week but I figured if anyone could shed some light on this I would appreicate it.

I got bit during our week at Disney. It was on my ankle and probably when I was wearing sandals and not my sneakers....It itched for a few weeks and yes I did have a bump where it was....this was the first week of May. I think it was an ant or a little spider ....I saw a few of those...it finally stopped itching and the mark is gone now.....a few years back I got bit by a fire ant. he found refuse in my water sandals and I put them on after being in the pool and it bit me a few times....those hurt and a few hours later it turned to itching

It may have been a yellow fly bite. They have been really bad this year.

I was bitten almost a month ago on my let. I tend to react badly to bites. My leg swelled up and it became a weepy wound for about two weeks. When it finally began to heal, it peeled. Now, it is a series of little red bumps.

At Epcot a fly bit me......it didn't even swell or itch till after I got home. I used Benadryl lotion.

It sounds like you bot bit by a yellow fly also known as a deer fly. I feel your pain. I was bitten on May 22 and still have terrible marks from the bites. Mine are healing but slowly. I would mention it to your doctor, some people need medication to help with the healing.

This is from wikipedia...
When feeding, females use knife-like mandibles and maxillae to make a cross-shaped incision and then lap up the blood. Their bite can be extremely painful, and resulting allergic reaction from the saliva of the fly can result in further discomfort and health concerns. Pain and itch are the most common symptoms, but more significant allergic reactions can develop.

No wonder it hurts so much.

very much for responding. Now at least I feel like I am not losing my mind and something odd did bite me. I can't even lean on my elbow because of the pain. I will be going to the doctors. The bumps were filled with puss which did break open once but they are filled again and peeling too. Hope that wasn't too gross for anyone.

Thanks again

Please do go see the doctor. You may have caught a strep or mersa virus in the wound and will need antibiotics to heal. Pain and pus are not good.

oh, please! I got to Disney May 13th, two days before my birthday. I got this one bug bite..well, it landed me in the hospital. I came home with 8 other bites, and the BWV had to call 911, and then I had to call 911 again due to a allergic reaction to the spectra antibiotic they put me on. I managed to go on only one ride, which was the safari ride, and I also got bit.
so you are not loosing your mind! the first aid gave me a little packet of Calagel, that stuff worked so awesome I had to special order it at home!!!

mine was extremely itchy, and then my leg swelled up, here is a photo when it started, see the red mark? that spread to 6 times the size, I ended up with a bacteria infection. it was painful, hot, itchy I thought I was on fire, and not to mention the other 8 bites!

Well, that explains it, then. On the 5th or 6th of June I got 6 bites in various places on my legs that are still swollen and itchy.

I knew that they were not mosquito bites b/c they very seldom bite me, and even if they do, I don't react. I had guessed that they were spider bites, because I always react badly to those, but it seemed like a stretch to get 6 spider bites all at once.

I unfortunately forgot to do my preventative antihistamines this trip, and got PMLE, too. To say that my legs look unattractive right now is the understatement of the century!

The yellow fly bite was the worst I've ever had. It lasted forever and itched like crazy. I was bit on the ankle at Splash Mountain.

I've been home for over a week and I am still itching! I got several bites on my ankles and hands and a few on my arms. I got most at MK but a some also at POR. My 2 sisters also got bitten but our 4 yo niece did not.

When we went the last week of May I got bit by yellow
flies. The bites have healed, but I have dark spots where the bites were.

I cannot thank you enough. For the past 5 visits I have developed what I think is PMLE but two doctors were not able to diagnose it. How do you prevent it from happening?
