How do the buffets work for children under 3? If DW & myself pay OOP for Chef Mickey's for dinner does our DS get to eat anything off the buffet for free?

Yes, he can have anything he'd like from the buffet at no charge. The prices for buffets and character meals are basically "admission", and it works just like the parks - you don't pay for kids under three, but they can still enjoy the offerings.

Since you specifically mention OOP, even if your are on the DDP your child under 3 is free. This is true for all buffets and all-you-can-eat meals.

We did the QSDP when we were there in 2009 and totally got our money's worth. Not sure if we will do the dining plan this time since we don't want to do all QS, but we don't want to do TS everyday either.

Your toddler can eat off of your QS meal. if you order a meal for him you have to pay for it. Same for a non-buffet TS.

Buffets and Family Style he can have his own plate!

FYI: at CRT and akershus they brought my dd an "infant meal" --dd picked a waffle at CRT and mac and cheese (I think) at akershus. No charge!

There is no such thing as a "kids buffet" or even an "adult buffet" at Disney. They have buffets with one section lower to the floor which has on it items that kids tend to enjoy (such as pizza, hot dogs, chicken strips, mac & cheese, etc.). Any person at the buffet (including children less than age three who are free) can get anything from any part of the buffet.

When DD was between 2 and 3 we found it was just easier to book mainly buffets. She was able to eat lots of fruit, applesauce, mac n cheese- all things she was familiar with and loves.

I totally agree with DCBride. The buffets were our best bet, when traveling with our little guy this December. He could get a wide variety of food that was nutritious. It wasn't the standard kids fare of mac n cheese and applesauce like other places. We ended up doing Crystal Palace twice, and Tusker House once because he could get food quickly without a wait, eat healthily, and meet the characters all in one meal!! Have a great trip!!

When my daughter was under 3 we did mainly buffets exactly because of this convenience. However, even when we didn't we still got treated a couple of times.

Example: when we ate at Sanaa I asked for a small portion of rice with steamed vegetables for her. We gave her some of the meat from our plates but used the rice and vegetables as a side dish for her. We never got charged for it and when we brought the fact to the attention of the waiter he told us it was on the house.

I wouldn't count on it since technically they would have to charge you but it does happen. I guess it depends on the CM serving you.
