buffet menu confusion

I just received a bunch of info about menus and beverage options. Talk about sticker shock! At a venue w/ a $100 minimum (ADH), with a cocktail hour, buffet dinner, and beverages, it looks like we won't actually be anywhere near that minimum.

What i'm confused about is the buffet choices...it seems like there are only 2 options: one menu that's $99 pp(The "Glass Slipper" dinner), and one that's $110pp (a cocktail hour/buffet package). They both include a bunch of desserts, which we don't want since we'll be having wedding cake. I assume the cost will be lower if you can take away the things you don't want, but of course once you add the cost of the cake, it will probably add up to the same total anyway...:confused3

Add on the food for cocktail hour (which starts at $28 pp), and beverages (which range from $15pp for soda/water for 3 hours to $28 pp for an open bar w/ beer, wine, and liquor) and the total per person cost is in the $150-$170 range. :scared:

I know this is something i could talk to my planner about, but thought I'd come here first for your thoughts! Is it really that unreasonable to stay close to the $100 minimum for a buffet dinner and still offer guests some sort of alcoholic beverage option?? And are there other buffet options that I am missing? I thought there'd be more than just TWO choices.

My planner told me that you can basically customize your own menu from the different food choices on the menus they sent. I don't know how cost effective this is since I haven't gotten that far into the process yet (i.e. I don't know if it's cheaper to choose one of the menus they give you or if it is the same per item price to customize). Maybe someone else can give a little more guidance...

I have a pdf file with about a dozen or so menu options. (My wedding planner sent it to me a couple months ago.) I don't think I can attach it to this post, but I'll put it on my website, so you can download it if you want. The address is worthington-biochem.com/Lisa/menus.pdf (Or, if you want me to try to get it to you in some other way, just let me know how.)

I completely understand where you're coming from....we're at the Grand which has $125 minimum and we are $50 over that, including bar, cake and cocktail hour. If you count cake and bar, its hard to stay close to those minimums with the pricing that just went into effect (lucky us...bleh)

Our reception is at the French Island at EPCOT. We went with a lighter fare for dinner. I think its $50pp. We are having only the antipasti display as the pre-reception, and with cake and beer and wine package we're just barely over the $100pp minimum. You can have virtually anything you want for food. When we considered using the GF as our reception, we had chosen one of the rehearsal dinner menus because it was smaller and way less expensive. HTH.

oh wow, it's good to know that we can pick from other menus, and aren't restricted to the two i was sent. I seriously almost had a heart attack last night!! we'll have to do some thinking about which beverage package to go with, because while we want alcohol to be served, we don't want to break the bank over it!

We managed to stick to pretty much the $100 pp minimum. And then my parents said they were going to pay for most of the wedding (DH's family were a bit strange and wanted to pay for just their family - 5 people - rather than contribute towards the wedding lol) so i had more money to play with and i ended up going way past the $100minimum!
