buena vista suites

My son's high school band will be going to disney in the spring and they recently got an"upgrade" to Buena vista suites. My DH and I will be going along, the first time we've stayed off site. How is this motel? I remember it getting good reviews a while ago but nothing recently

My wife and I stayed there last October. Huge suites, great proximity to WDW with little to no traffic. On the downside, our stay was plagued by annoying little mechanical problems with our keycards, telephones, etc. Breakfast buffet was OK. Not horrible, but we probably won't stay there on our next visit.

It was generally clean and safe while we were there. We did not use the hotel pool at all during our stay. We did look at the pool and it appeared to be very small. I've been told that guests at the Buena Vista Suites are allowed to use the pool at the Caribe Royale next door, which is supposedly very nice. I don't know if this is still the case and I can't vouch for the quality of the pool there.

Overall I'd give it 2.5 stars out of a possible 5. The large size of the suites allowed me to watch TV in the living room while my wife slept in the bedroom. BVS also gets points for location, because it is just outside Disney Property. The ride to the parks was quick and free of traffic hassles. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The free breakfast buffet was a big money saver but nothing to write home about. The major negatives were the maintenance problems. We had to make several trips to the front desk for annoying little problems. Our keycard did not work properly, our telephone was useless because there was too much static on the phone line and the ice machine on our floor was out of service.

BVS is not a bad place, but if you're used to staying onsite you will probably be disappointed.
