Budget vs. etiquette?

A good friend of mine is getting married in June. We (all his friends & his side of the family) are on the west coast, but his fiancée is from the east coast, so the wedding is back east. He “announced" the date of the wedding on Facebook last fall (yes, Facebook) and a couple of weeks ago he sent a note asking for email & mailing addresses so they could finally get the ball rolling on invites & e-vites, though neither have gone out yet.

I'm a college student (graduating in May!!), and if airfare keeps going up the way it is I won't be able fit the trip in my already crazy-tight budget. My flights are on sale right now - like, $200 off! We've been waiting and waiting but so far all we have is a date and a city - nothing on accommodations, time, etc. I know he's busy (wedding planning, last semester of college, senior thesis film - busy!), so I feel like it's rude to bother him about it... but do I ask for more info? Or do I just wait and risk not going?

If you have a date & a city, why not book your airfare now and accommodations later? Or find a Hampton/Holiday Inn Express, Comfort Inn, etc, and book a room. You can always change later. Most hotels won't charge you unless you don't cancel by 6pm on the night of check in.

I don't see a problem booking airfare now if you know you want to go. Now, you COULD get burned if they change the date (or having the wedding at all).

Are you sure you made the cut of people invited to the wedding. Many people have 500+ friends on FB and don't expect to invite them all. If this is a really close friend I would just mention in passing "hey I saw flights to XYZ city are on sale this weekend on ABC airline and it is great price" then see if he bites.

Fair question, I am officially invited though. So says my Facebook message from him... yes, Facebook again. (I know I'm young and I'm supposed to looooove Facebook but can we all just go back to emails, please?) Haha I do have several friends who think they're going but I know they aren't, though!

Hmm, I don't know why I didn't think of it this way, why did this sound so complicated in my head? Enough with your logic, I can't handle it! :)
