Any suggestions for an inexpensive, but decent tablet? He'd mainly be using for games and watching truck/train videos online. I bought his brother a Nexus 7 but sharing that might not work. I'd like $100 or less if that's possible.

$100 or less (new) is going to be junk that freezes and doesn't work. Honestly you will have wasted $100.

For $159 I believe you can get the old Kindle Fire.

Also check craigslist or Facebook garage sale groups in your area. For example, we got my daughter an iphone and sold her iPod for $80 in a local FB garage sale group. You too May luck out on someone trading up for new technology.

Also try amazon (online) and GameStop (local) for tablets (or iPod Touch ) that have been turned in.

I bought a used MacBook for my kids through Amazon from a seller with very high feedback ratings

Have you considered a refurb'd iTouch? I think they are around $100. My four-year old son uses his big sister's iTouch. He loves it and wants one of his own.

We are considering trying the Kindle Fire for him at Christmas, because I've seen great reviews on it.

Best of luck, I'm sure you'll find something that is a perfect match :)

I wanted something similar for my DD last year (she was 5). What I did was find a Samsung Galaxy cell phone (used) for $25 of kijiji and downloaded a ton af free android apps, music and any videos I had. I keep the phone in flight mode (unless I let her watch some UTube videos or to download new games) and she loves it. I like the size for such a young kid and at the cost... you can't beat it because I know in another 2 years or so she will want to have something bigger/better and I have less concerns about it getting lost!

My 5 yo son has access to a MobiGo, my old iPhone loaded with kid stuff, my current Samsung, and my Kindle Fire.

By far the most requested and most used is the Kindle Fire. We subscribe to the Kindle Free Time Unlimited and it is FANTASTIC. It's only 2.99 per month if you are a Prime member and gives you access to hundreds (HUNDREDS--seriously good library with some cool read along features) of books and games, as well as all of the kid's section of the Prime Instant videos. They add new content all the time, too.

I have a couple of movies loaded on to it for when we're out of WiFi service, but if you click on any of the books and games while in WiFi, they stay on the device.

When my DS was that age he got my old iTouch. Did everything you wanted and was easy for little hands even in a heavy duty case. I have a friend whose 4 yr old uses her old one as well.

honestly, I would go ahead and get him the same thing as you got his brother. The difference in what the two tablets can do is going to be obvious, and that will be frustrating to the little guy. There are tons of things a four year old can do with a tablet and a good one can grow with him. Just get good cases and teach them how to care for them. Our 7 year old has been using our since four and we have never had a issue. He has an ipod, and has since age 4 or so, and will get a pad when he request one. We had thought this Christmas but he wants skylander and I want APs so think the table will have to wait.

I agree

They do sell kids tablets in that range...
How good they are???????
you may try to find the older Lenovo A something 7 I think it was.
It was discountined about 6 months ago but they are still on Ebay it was selling for 150 then around 100. You should be able to get it for under 100 new or slightly used.
it is great for games fine for surfing the internet but a little slow on some sites has all that he will need... I suggest this because of the case it has a metal back under the skin.. I do not know if the new one is the same but if you go to staples they should have it...
It is very well built... the samsung is a better tablet but not built as well by far and lets face it he is 4.... it will likley be dropped many times...
On the other side I would check out his 1st garde school's website as a lot are now using paid websites for home work that require the use of a computer....
yes my 7 year old has a real laptop and he uses it 4-5 times a week....
15 years ago my company had a dial up modem for e-mail now I can do NOTHING when our internet goes down :lmao:

get this:
nabitablet.com/nabijr (i cant link yet)

If you can spring for it, do the 139 one..the specs are on par with nexus 7. If not the 99 dollar one will work, they are ready for the child's drops and bangs!

Also, the great thing about nabi is education! and it also has a chore system built in. So they know which chores need to be done, and can unlock stuff on the tablet via getting said chores done.

If your budget allows, I would purchase another Nexus 7 tablet and invest in two high quality protective cases for them (like Otterbox) so you won't have to replace either of them in 1 or 2 or 3 years.

The $100 tablets are not going to last more than a year or so and severely lack the quality of the Nexus 7 or iPad. Both you and your young son will be frustrated with the caliber of it compared to the Nexus. If you are really stuck in the $100 budget, definitely get one of the Kindle Fires so you at least have reasonable quality.

A high quality tablet will last you years if protected appropriately so if you can, put your money into a high quality device rather than having to buy a new one every 6 months or 1 year.

On Amazon.com has Asus Memo Pad for 99.00 and get good reviews. The next up Kindle Fire for 139.00. After would Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 or Nexus 7 for 199.00.

Or

Get Andriod pre-paid cell phone for under 50 bucks and has the lastest jellybean andriod.

You could probably pick up a 1st Gen. Nexus 7 for around $100.

My son has a 1st Gen. Nexus 7, 32gb and loves it. I wouldn't bother with a 16gb as those newer apps take a lot of memory. We also download movies for long car trips, etc..;.
