I have been racking my brain to come up with a family gift from santa that all our kiddos can enjoy. I think they'd like a tv in the basement. This would have to be mounted on the wall. DH is overseas so I can't ask for his help on this. How do I know if a flat screen tv is wall mountable? Is it something I can do myself? Are there any with built in dvd? I don't need a huge one since our basement rec room isn't that big. We have cable for the computer down there so I am assuming we can run cable for a tv. Finally, where can I get the best deal for this family gift?

Almost all flat screens that I am aware of are wall mountable - any decent website description should tell you and so should the box if you are in a store. You can get wall mounts from almost any store, including Home Depot/Lowes, etc. Maybe four screws in the wall and you're done, then attach the TV.

For actual store shopping we like HH Gregg, but check online first - they will price match any legitimate website, including Amazon.

There are some with a wall mount and a built in DVD. Some will recommend against them as the DVD player is not Blu Ray and if it goes it can mess up the whole TV, but I have one in my bedroom TV and I love it. I have a 23" Toshiba. The TV is wall mountable. It also comes in 26" and 32" versions any bigger than that and you probably won't find a built in DVD player. Be aware though that a good wall mount can cost you as much as the TV.

Monoprice.com is a really great site for wall mounts that are affordable. Most stores will charge 2-3x the price that you'll find there.
