Based upon usrentacar think we will be going for Budget rather than Dollar this year. Gold cover is not worth the extra £100 either.

Wonder what car I would be likely to get if we go for 7 seater minivan or 7 seater 4*4 SUV ?

After our cruise last August we had a 3 day rental so thought I would go for something larger than we needed, For only 3 days price was not that much so went for full-size SUV rental - class Z - Ford Expedition or similar, unfortunately on collection the best they had was a 7 seater ford Freestar.
With the Port office being a lot quieter than airport they don't stock the same choice(and don't prepare them as well, it was filthy)
Should be better choice from airport

We might be in a similar situation, have always used Dollar also but the prices are frightening at the moment.

Generally we look at a Minivan find they just suit us best with plenty of luggage and Joshua's wheelchair.
Must admit the 'Freestar' isn't as appealing as Dollar's Chrysler Town and Country or Dodge Grand Caravan.
Used to the layout/controls of them also.

To be honest ALL prices for this type of vehicle are expensive at the moment, I really hope they come down.

Is there more luggage space in the minivan compared to SUV?

It all depends on how many there are in your family. There are the 3 of us but we find the 'stow n go' option on the Dodge/Chrysler very useful as the third row of seats can be folded flat making more boot space.

I would say in many cases the minivan would have more space for luggage, but then again they are not necessarily people AND luggage carriers, the more people the less room.
If there are no more than 4 I would say a minivan would have loads of space as you could fold the rear set down.

According to Ford website they do not actually show the Freestar as a current vehicle, unless they just produce it for the rental market.

Thanks Johnny and Wayne. We have decided on a 7 seater minivan.
Just wish the prices would come down.. but I also want to book now so that it is another thing ticked :thumbsup2

We found the luggage space could have been better in the 7 seater minivan. BUT there were six people plus all their luggage so you should have a little more space with five (??) Assuming that's the right number ;)

At the end of the day, the only journeys that it matters for are en route to and from the airport. Nobody minds being squashed on the way there, and on the way back you'll all be so depressed anyway it won't matter :lmao:

Yes it is 5 Karen :thumbsup2

Good point about the journey. We found the troops also enjoyed the space in the 7 seater when folks were tired and therefore did not niggle each other :goodvibes
