We are looking to go to Hershey Park this summer and were looking into a nice, clean budget friendly hotel in the area. We'd also like one with an indoor pool in case the weather isn't cooperating with our plans.

We were looking at the Comfort Inn in Harrisburg. Has anyone stayed there or do you have any other recommendations?

Thank you so much!

Hi, We just stayed 3 nights in Dec. at the Comfort Inn at the Park about a mile or so from HP. We thought it was great! It was very clean, seems to have been updated, has a nice (warm) pool, they offer free continental breakfast with a make your own waffle station, and there's free coffee, tea and hot chocolate in the lobby at all times. There are also some friendly ducks there in a pond for the kids to feed. (Although DH seemed to enjoy it even more!!!!)

We got a great Christmas Candylane package that was listed on the actual website for the Hotel (not the general Comfort Inn website). I just checked the site and there are no special packages listed for the summer yet, but you can check back or maybe call them. I'm not sure if I can post a web link or not, but if you can't find the site by googling, you can pm me.

I don't know about the one in Harrisburg, but this other one is sooooo close!!!! Highly recommended! :thumbsup2

We have stayed at the Econo or comfort lodge at Grantville about 10 minutes from the park of I-81. Breakfast. clean, I think on AAA I paid about $55 during season. Off season across from Lucy's I think is a Comfort Inn that is great. near the zoo area. two lights down I think on 422.

I agree with the recommendation for the Comfort Inn at the Park. Room was clean, nice pool, and breakfast was good. Kids will love the ducks!

We stayed at the country inn and suites - 4 miles away, clean and inexpensive, friendly staff, indoor pool and free breakfast. This May we're staying at the Suites at Hershey, because they have 2 bedroom 2 bathroom suites, which is nice for us.

I highly recommend the Mainstay Suites in Grantville. They have an indoor pool, indoor miniature golf, indoor basketball, and a deluxe continental breakfast. The rooms are clean and each room has a full-size refrigerator, a dishwasher, a range, a microwave, and an LCD TV. Furthermore, the hotel has only been open a couple years and they have very reasonable rates. It's about 5 miles from Hershey Park.

I can't recommend a place to stay, as we live within driving distance and have no need to stay overnight. However, I did want to recommend going to the Hershey Story museum while you are there. It is totally worth the admission price! We went this summer (my mom, my aunt, my DS14 and myself) and had a great time. They have a chocolate making "seminar" or class you can do in the "Chocolate Lab" which was a lot of fun, very educational, and you take your creation home with you. They also have chocolate tastings in the cafe. (if you do the tastings, be sure to share one between your family. This is some of the richest sipping chocolate you will ever taste! The four of us shared one tasting and it was plenty!)

You can take a shuttle (free) back and forth between Chocolate World and the Hershey Story.

this is a great thread for me right now thinking of driving down in august. But I think I would like to go to Pa next month. I know the theme parks are closed but for those who live in pa what is near Hershey? I have tow young girls 3 and 7 whom I home school. We would love to do the crayola factory but is that close? With in a hour or so? Also what would you recommend to go see off season. Thanks

I would say you could get to the Crayola Factory within an hour of Hershey. We went last summer and honestly, I wouldn't do it again. My kids are 10 and 6 and they were not really into it. If I were to come to PA for a visit, I would spend time either in Lancaster visiting and learning about the Amish or in either Valley Forge or Gettysburg. All very educational but still very fun.

Crayola Factory (in Easton) is about an hour and forty five minutes, maybe two hours away. It's not really close, and I wouldn't go out of my way to go there. It'll fill 1/2 day at best.

If you are going to Hershey, I'd stick with Hershey and Lancaster County. There's a lot to do in Lancaster County...Strasburg Railroad, outlet shopping, Amish tours, etc.

I agree with the Country Inn & Suites recommendation, we stayed there in August when we visited Hershey and it was a nice hotel. Clean rooms, free breakfast, nice staff, clean indoor pool.

We were there in October and stayed at the Springhill Suites in Harrisburg/Hershey. It was brand new - we stayed there the 2nd night it was open. We have 6 in our family, so we needed the extra pull out bed. It was a beatiful new hotel with an indoor pool (although the pool was tiny). Enjoy your trip.

Anyone ever stay in Lancaster?
Looking at the Homewood Suites.......
Thanks!

Will be keeping an eye on this thread as I will be in the Hershey area for 5 days in June and haven't decided on a hotel yet.

How far is Gettysburg from Hershey? My kids are 12 and 9 and I am looking at the 2hour tour on the double decker bus. I may even try to get them to do a haunted tour too.

Just checked Mainstay and it does look great for the price. I'll have to show my DH and see what he thinks.

I've checked out a few of the others on here and they want well over a $100 a night. I'm looking for under $100 that will include the tax, etc. I need a room for 2 adults, 2 kids, an indoor pool, a fridge in the room, clean and well maintained, not far from the attractions. Those attractions being Hershey Park and then maybe the Indian Carverns and another day in Gettysburg.

We stayed at a Residents' Inn nearby. We loved it.....a one bedroom place and they feed you! Free hot b-fast every day and then free dinners M-Th. :thumbsup2

Last July, we stayed at the Springhill Suites on Museum Drive. It was literally about 5 minutes away from the entrance of HersheyPark. We had a large room with a fridge, king bed, sofa bed. Very nice, comfortable and clean. VERY helpful staff. Indoor pool and hot tub, etc.

I already snagged a room for this July. I paid about $160 per night, which is excellent considering it's so close.

Has anybody stayed at the Howard Johnson Inn in Lancaster? I'd love to know how the newly added indoor water area compares with those in other hotels. Is it worth a ninety minute drive for the weekend when the park is closed? :confused3

I'm not sure if they still do this, but they used to charge extra for use of the "waterpark".
