Budget friendly durable everyday dishes

I am looking for budget friendly durable dishes that are microwave safe and are not easily broken (have a 6 year old who washes his own dishes and drops frequently) Any suggestions?

Correlle - I'm not sure how it is spelled, but they are "unbreakable." We got ours at an outlet store. Check around, they were not that expensive and we've had them for about 15 years.

Amazon had a set of Corelle dishes in the gold box for $17.99 today, but they already sold out!

I really like my Fiestaware. It isn't as durable as Corelle, but they are still pretty sturdy. I like buying from Mega China because you can get a set but pick multiple colors. Macys and other dept stores often have good sales on the regular sets.

I'll second this! They are also lite weight which I like with kids.

Corelle - readily available at Wal-Mart, Target. The Corning/Revere Ware outlet store always has them on sale. Huge selection and great prices.

They still have the sets, but they're now $29.99 which still isn't too bad a price for a 16 piece set...

Another vote for Corelle They are literally indestructible! I picked my first set up at Kohls with a 30% discount coupon (that was many years ago, but pretty sure you can still use those discounts on almost anything in the store).

Corelle.. I have had mine for 7 yrs. Mine have been moved 3 times and have been dropped by all my kids at least once and have not broken.

I grew up overseas and my parents took Corelle with them. They still use them today and I am 43!

I asked for a set of white correlle for my wedding 14.5 years ago and they are still great. I got the plain white and the best part is they never go out of style so I can add pieces as necessary.

Corelle does break. Ask me how I know...... But they are good everyday dishes and are lightweight! They are good for kids who help with the dishes and with unloading the dishwasher. They are pretty reasonably priced, too.

I believe Corelle is on sale for Black Friday. If memory serves me correct they are at Walmart. Check www bfads dot net

I am curious as to how they break. I am a foster mom so having a kid throw a dish isnt all that unlikely.

Corelle dishes breakage. I have done this too. Landing on edge. Shatters like
glass with the same unlovely shards all over. It was from about 50 inches up.
It still is hard to do.

They sell it by the piece at Walmart so it can be replaced easily...it is very durable, loads of choices!

My sister has had her set for 30 years. When she told me they were unbreakable, she threw one on the floor!!! It didn't break, she has two boys and those dishes have been through a lot!

The are "unbreakable" but they do break. My mom's had the same set for years and years. Don't know if it is still the policy but years ago they would send a replacement if you sent in the broken pieces.

How do I know this??? Many years ago when I was a teen I was helping my mom set up for a baby shower. I dropped a huge stack of her saucers, cups and the coffee creamer. Most didn't break but the creamer and several cups did break. She sent them back and received package back. Someone messed up and they sent her the correct number of cups but instead of one creamer they sent us 10!

My sister also has had a set for nearly 20 years and they are in great shape even though she has small kids who do drop them.

Break resistant is a better way to describe Corelle, but they are great everyday dishes. I also love that they are so lightweight. We have been using the same set for 25 years now and I've only broken one bowl over the years - I dropped it on its edge on a ceramic tile floor.

When we opened our dishes right from the box, one of the pieces was broken. I think it was one of the mugs (which we don't use) so we didn't bother trying to get a replacement.

My mother's plate broke when it slipped out of her hand while unloading the dishwasher. Corelle sent her a replacement plate, but her design was discontinued and they had to send her a plain white plate instead of one that was a part of her set.

We've had Corelle for years now and our kids routinely unload the dishwasher. So far, they haven't chipped or broken anything.

I like the dishes because they are lightweight and not heavy.

I absolutely adore my Corelle. I've used the same set continuously for over 15 years.

I have dropped many pieces. On linoleum-type or wood floors I have not had anything break. On ceramic tile, I have had two of the bowls break. Both landed right on their edge and they shattered into a billion tiny shards.
I agree with the other poster who said "break resistant" is a good description for Corelle. It's not "unbreakable" but it's durable enough for a large busy family to use everyday.
