Hi all - looking for some help for a budget friendly couples resort or getaway! Looking like a long weekend type of thing. I would LOVE an all inclusive style - prefer to stay in the US... Any suggestions... having some marriage trouble and i am trying to find some ways to help us...

Thanks

Are you looking for a beach getaway? I know you said you want to stay in the US but, Jamaica has some very nice and reasonably priced all inclusives. They have pakages that include air. There are the 2 RIU resorts in Negril,JA. There is also The Grand Palladium in Lucea in between Negril and Montego Bay. Take a look at www.CheapCarribean.com and see what packages they have. The Super clubs resorts have super club super surprises, you do not know which resort you will stay at until a day or so before. Also www.skyaution has some pretty good deals on Jamaica and the US it is a bid to win, like ebay. I have used them many times w/o any problems. Good luck with everything.

I posted a couple days ago looking for a budget cruise, but when talking to DH today, we thought it might be interesting to look into something like this instead. We'd like to spend about $2500-3000 our family of 4, but will have to fly out of Philly probably. Is this impossible?:confused3

Check out vacationstogo.com they have great deals on cruises within a 90 day window....you would just have to deal with airfare so it may or may not be budget friendly :confused3

DH and I rented a beautiful cabin for two in the smokey mountains. It was waaaaay up in the mountains. Yet, only minutes from town. It had a pool table, air hockey, fooseball, jacuzzi inside and a hottub outside on the deck with an amazing mountain view. A deck with a porch swing. A cozy fireplace, complete kitchen. We had the BEST week. Went and saw a couple shows, dinners out, grilled at the cabin. Went to the arts and crafts area, shopped in Gatlinburg. We are going back in May.

Fiance and I are going through some rough times. He’s (well his entire cul de sac, all the homeowners) are being sued by a nasty neighbor over a land dispute that originated in 1957 (no lie…it’s ridiculous) and I suffered a very bad faint/fall which destroyed my face and two of my teeth over the weekend, and resulted in god only knows how much of my savings needing to be used for medical and dental bills (I have insurance for both, but it’s basically worthless and barely covers anything dental which is where the real problem is).

We have been working our behinds off to get ahead financially. Paid off ½ our debt in less than 3 months. Saved up all our wedding money in less than 1 month. Put together a $1K emergency fund. Had about $1K in “general savings” as well.
Now it looks like all our wedding money, all our e-fund will be gone and all the rest of the savings too, will be going to dental bills.

So I said “bleep it, the dentist isn’t getting every cent I’ve earned” and instead of working yet more OT this Saturday, we are going away. I booked us a weekend in a fireplace/hot tub suite in the White Mountains and a private sunset Sleigh Ride. We are driving (about 3 hours away) and the whole weekend (hotel & sleigh ride) will cost $450. (basically my work Xmas bonus and a tiny portion of my last weeks ebay sales). He’s paying for the gas to get there and back. We’ll split the cost of cheap food. I can’t chew so I can’t eat much anyway, probably a lot of soup and pasta.

We’re staying in the North Conway, NH area. The sleigh ride is at a farm 6 miles from North Conway. The center of North Conway (cute country shops, steam railroad, dining and art) is a 5 minutes drive from our hotel. The hotel has a huge (3-4 person sized) hot tub in the room, with windows looking out on the mountains. It’s not 4 star, but it’s quiet and relaxing. I really think we both need this. I totally understand where the OP is coming from.

So… OP, consider areas you can drive to. Consider romantic B&Bs. A lot of times they have packages that include dining. At this time of year, I wouldn’t want the stress of worrying about my flights being delayed due to storms etc. so I’d choose to drive locally. And that way it is possible to do a romantic getaway for under $500. I imagine this whole weekend for us will end up being under $550 after food and gas is worked in.

My DH and I went to Las Vegas last summer to celebrate his 40th birthday. It was fairly inexpensive. Someone always has a great price on flights and hotels. There is a ton of stuff to do there from free to very expensive.

Neither of us had ever been there and we weren't sure it would be our type of place, but we found that Vegas is what you make it. If you want dressed up and fancy, you can do it. If you want laid back and comfortable, you can do that, too.

Good luck to you both!

We love the Ceasers Resorts in the Poconos if you're up for a flight. It's all inclusive and couples only. You have your choice of 4 incredible resorts and can use all 4 resorts for the activities. We've been numerous times to relight the fire.

I know this is OT but wanted to let you know, if you haven't already had the dental work done, a dental plan may be the way to go. It's not insurance but more of like a discount card. I had quite a bit of dental work done earlier this year and before I went in to have it done I purchased a year "plan" for $100 off of dentalplans.com. This saved me hundreds of dollars as with plans there's no such thing as a pre-existing condition (plus there's no max or cap to the discount and they show you what the discounts would be generally). I also get discounts on prescriptions and vision too (eye exams.glasses/contacts). Just an FYI in case you haven't thought of this.

OP, I know you were thinking somewhere warm/tropical, but I second Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, TN! I've rented a cabin a few times and not only do you get beautiful cabins with hot tubs, fully furnished, fireplaces, etc. but they can be found really cheap as there's so many of them! Plus you could technically drive as flying tends to be the most expensive part of going anywhere tropical. Believe me, a few days snuggled up in a hot tub or talking by the fire can fix a lot of relationship problems ;). Good luck!

Thank you! I will look into that for sure!!

And I agree so much with what I highlighted. I know OP is doing this to help with problems that already exist, but in my case, I also think it can be good when bad stuff is piling up, to sort of cut the stress and "real world" problems that lead to 95% of fights off at the pass.

We love the Ceasar's resorts, too. I recently saw that they still operate 3 adults only resorts. The 4th (Brookdale - for families) has been sold to become condos.
