budget friendly Christmas teacher gift

I know we are a long ways from Christmas but later in the year this is a popular topic. I am on a teacher's contract and I have an idea for you. The idea of a card or note with a personal message is so appreciated. I keep a journal where I write down when someone says something kind to me so I can read it when I am having a bad day. If get a email message I will clip and past it in there. Sometimes the kids will write me little notes and they go in there too. If you see a pretty journal now in the dollar store maybe pick it up. You could start it off with a quote and/or nice personal message. Sometimes our days really suck because adults (I can handle the kids) can be so mean. (generally I find this more often comes in the form of coworkers but it still sucks and it is nice to be able to smile, even sometimes seeing random posts on the DIS boards putting teachers down really hurts even though I know everyone has the right to their opinion)

I started planning early this year for my end of the year teacher gift...I am the room mom so I took pictures and video at our parties and created a video out of them. I want to make her a photobook as well - I am hoping to have each student give me a picture and a quote about why they love her - then I will give it to her.

I have to decide how ambitious I want to be b/c the thought of trying to get a note and picture from each kid seems like a big task! Maybe I will sneak in one day when she isn't there and take each picture and ask them the question!!

When I was doing my student teaching, my supervising teacher let the students make one of these books for me. Each child had a page with their picture on it, and they each wrote a little message to me. I still cherish it after all these years and look at it when I'm having a bad day. It's one of the best gifts I've ever received!
