We love Disney and being on property with the dining plan. However we can only afford the value resorts and we need a change . ( However i got an AWESOME upgrade from All Star Movies to AKL a couple weeks ago)
I wanted to book the 5 night special for September but it's not possible . I wanted to do something diffrent with the kids and the Nickelodeon resort looks awesome. I heard its a vacation in and of itself. However I've heard alot of people say it's nuts to go all the way to Florida and not go to Disney so im confused
How does this sound ?
3 or 4 nights at the Nick hotel with the $79 dollar rates ( with taxes/fees ill round it up to about $600)
Mears transportation 90 round trip
Food/spending money $500
Airfare $600
I may bring extra spending money and decide to go to MK for 1 day .
I was also thinking of doing Coco Key if it's cheaper than Nick . I just want to go to a resort with slides and a splash area for kids. Nick hotel also have 4d shows and a character breakfast so im leaning towards Nick.
I am on the side of those who would say that it doesn't make sense to come to Orlando and not stay at Disney. First, are you sure that Mears transportation from MCO to Nick is $90 RT for the family?
Second, airfare and food/spending money of $1100 S/B close for either resort.
Third, I am not sure why a change from value resorts to Nick would be a plus.
Fourth, I have nothing against Nick, it is good, but it isn't Disney.
I don't know if I could go all the way to Florida and NOT go to Disney! It would be toture to be so close and yet so far. But you were just there, so maybe it won't be so hard.I went on the Mears website and round trip 1 adult 2 kids was $88 on the shared shuttle van . When I add it all up it's pretty close to staying at disney on the dining planI wanted to stay at Nick because the kids love the Nick characters and when I was younger I always wanted to stay at the nick hotel lol I was thinking i'd add in 1 day at MK. I wanted to do a quick vacay as cheap as possible possibly for October/November.

I've heard good and bad about the Nick hotel but I've never stayed there myself. I considered it a couple of times when the kids were young but now that they are young adults, I haven't kept up on the latest discussions about it.
If you want to do one visit to the MK "cheaply", consider doing the MNSSHP in October or the MVMCP in November. The parties don't start until 7 pm but in past years guests with tickets have been able to get into the park at 4 pm. The ticket for the party is cheaper than the cost of a one-day MYW ticket. And the kids would get to do something that isn't available at Disney any other time of the year.
I think that if you have the time and the money to make it happen, then there is no reason not to take that mini-vacation. Go for it!
Listen, I love wdw world just as much as the next guy but can we get a grip on reality. It is totally possible to have a great vacation at other places.
Op, we've done Florida vacations that only included wdw 1 or 2 days. They were just as "magical". We've done Kennedy space center, which my kids really loved, we've done sea world and loved it.
You know it's like ice cream, there is a whole world of flavors out there and they are just as great as Disney.
I agree with the previous poster, try the holloween party to get your disney fix and then go do some of the other great things that are available in Orlando.
A word of warning. The Nickelodeon Resort is on SR536, which is also known as Epcot Center Drive, and it is less than a mile from the WDW Gate.
I agree what about a BEACH vaca with the ocean? Sand and surf with surf and turf. Kids playing in the sand etc. Florida is NOT all about WDW.
