Budget family Christmas vacation getaway

I'm not sure 7 people can do a skiing/tubing trip (rental, lift tickets, lessons, etc.) with lodging and food for under $1,000.

What about Atlanta? You would have Georgia Aquarium, World of Coke, a zoo that has pandas, good art museum, etc. It's a convention city, so there should be lodging deals during the holidays.

If you decide on the mountains . . . I'm from that area, and the weather could be sunny and 65 or 10 and snowing.

Don't know how far you want to travel but have you thought about washington dc? They have a Gaylord hotel with the ice in it.

Heard DC is amazing at Christmas-time. DH & I may try to take the kids for a night or two this year. Packages at Gaylord look interesting otherwise try to bid a hotel via Priceline where you will likely get a great price during December. This past summer we got Marriott Metro Center for under $80 per night and I think in December you can get a bid accepted for around that amount as well. This hotel is well located between White House & Capitol, Smithsonian museums & Mall are walking distance too and Metro Center stop is outside hotel's door. It's Convention Center-Capitol Hill area/zone on Priceline. Bidding 3.5 star or 4 star level on Priceline in DC will ensure a good property, you can research histories of bids that have been accepted on biddingfortravel dot com and also read reviews there as well of various hotels in the particular bid area/zone.

Good luck :goodvibes

I didn't know they had one of those in DC, I thought it was only in Orlando, that looks really neat.

We are in NC too. Sugar Mountain and Boone are a good idea, renting a cabin would be a nice treat too. Last Christmast our family drove down to Atlanta, the aquarium, Coca Cola World and the Christmas village on the mountain were huge hits!! On the way back we stoppped in Savannah. We walked around the really cute shops in the river walk area then had dinner at the Lady and Son's. We stopped at Myrtle beach on the way home to see a show and have dinner at Broadway at the beach. Our kids name that trip as one of their favorites!
