Hi everyone,

I was just in the world over labor day and now have an itching for the original. I've been to the land two times but the last one was in the early 90s so I don't remember much.

I have about 600 dollars to spend total (just me going). :confused3 that needs to cover transportation to get there, hotel room, tickets, food and souvenirs.

I'm not a motel kinda girl so taht won't help me. I need interior hallways ;).

Hotels I'm considering Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express. Anybody ever stayed at them? Any thoughts?

Drive or Fly????

thanks for all your tips...Is this even possible???

That depends...Just a few questions first:

1) How long were you planning on staying?

2) How long a drive is it from where you are in AZ?

I was planning about 3 nights 4 at the most. My house is in the suburbs of Phoenix. I figure it would take at least 6 hours to get there due to traffic but not really sure. It all depends on how bad the traffic is in California when I get there and how bad it is in Phoenix when I'm leaving.

I'm all about Disney magic, but $600 is tough.

A 3-day parkhopper ticket is $186 if you buy it in advance online. That's basically a third of your budget right there.

You can get a hotel outside of walking distance for about $70 a night, but if you drive to the parks, it will be $15 a day for parking. You can get a hotel closer to Disneyland, but if interior corridors are really a requirement for you, it would be hard to find one for less than $100 a night. Camelot is really close, but has outdoor corridors and is $129 a night. The only thing I might suggest is getting an entertainment card discount at HOJO's for 50% off, but that is only available at certain times.

I'd drive in your case to save money. You could fly, but even if you found a cheap flight, you'd have to pay for a shuttle or taxi to bring you to and from your hotel, which would add up.

good points I'll have to do some more research to see what I can find.

50% off HOJOs sounds good to me. I might have to check that option out.

Transportation options:

Driving: I'm in Phoenix and it's about 700 miles round trip to Disneyland...Gilbert is a bit more east than we are, but not by much. My car gets about 30mpg, so it's about 23 gallons of gas. Here in Arizona gas is about $2.60 a gallon, but in LA it's closer to $2.80....so if you budget $3 a gallon so you have a little extra to drive around town, you're looking at roughly $70 in gas. Driving takes about 6 hours each way.

Airplane: I only looked at Southwest, but there are quite a few flights that are around $109 to get to LA, but coming home there are a lot of $59 flights. So, unless you do some hunting on other airlines and come up with better prices....driving is cheaper even for just one person.

Hotels...I didn't hunt for deals/coupons, etc, so you might do better if you put some time in looking, but with taxes you're probably looking at $100+ a night for the hotels you listed.

Tickets: Again, I didn't go hunting for deals....just looked at Disney's website....3 day hopper is $186; 4 day hopper is $201. Buy these online as they are more expensive at the gate.

So....your budget would look like this:

Gas for driving $70
Hotel 2 nights $200
3 day hopper $186
Food at Disney $144
Total $600

Of course this is bare bones....no souveniors or other extras, but it could still be a very fun trip....after all you're at Disney!

Now...if you're willing to stay somewhere else, you could probably add a day or two. We'll be staying at the Extended Stay America for $65 a night for 3 people....so in your case you'd be able to stay 3 nights for around the same as your 2 nights....and of course a 4 day hopper is only $201, so you'd only be slightly over your budget but have another full day at Disneyland. If you're never done Disneyland before, 3 days would be my minimum, 4 would be better to do almost everything. Of course, I've never gone alone, so it might be easier to get more done without someone else wanting to go in another direction, lol.

EDITED: I see an above poster talked about the parking.....we walk from Extended Stay, it's not too bad for an adult....not sure I'd do it with little kids that will want/need to be carried on the walk home...and yeah, occasionally we stay just a little too long at the park and that walk home feels really long....but the times we went before we did APs, it was doable.

Another thing to consider.....do you think you'd do another similiar trip in the next 12 months? If you're able to afford it, an AP is only $428 (the deluxe plus parking), about double what you're paying now.....but then you only have gas, hotel and food to consider for future visits. It means coming up with some extra to make this trip happen with the AP cost, but then you could do long weekends at Disney! Take a friend next time and split the cost of gas and hotel and it's even better!

Just looked up a few things for you pretty quick.

Southwest between PHX and LAX typically - $59 each way. Probably best to fly solo.
Transfer from LAX to hotel with Gray Line - $30
Holiday Inn Express Katella - $110
Hampton Inn And Suites Los Angeles/Anaheim-Garden Grove - $84 but it's out of range to walk.

If your not set on a certain type of hotel or location then you can try to do a bid through Priceline or other reputable online travel agents.

But assuming 2 days in the park and 2 nights hotel at Holiday Inn.

2 day PH tickets at DL - $161.00
Absolute cheapest you can eat utilizing free breakfast - $50
Souvies and misc. - $50 being thrifty for me.

That comes out to right around $700 including taxes. I'm on a solo trip from Dallas so I had a lot of this info on hand. So, with a little work on your end you might shrink a 2 night trip down to $600 if your flexible on the hotel side.

Edit: Now that I see that you want to try 3 nights then it gets really tough. For 3 nights I would expect a bare bones trip with your hotel choice closer to $900. Don't give up though. There are always ways to find discounts so it could just be a timing issue. Look for good sales online for airfare and hotels and you could definantly drop that estimate.

I looked all through the first half of October and didn't find any PHX to LAX for $59....lots from LAX home, but not there. Used be easy to find those cheap flights, but not lately...for some reason it's expensive to fly TO California right now.

You would have to leave on a Thursday (say the 14th) and return Monday (say the 18th) so I conceed the point. If it costs more than $150 after taxes to fly then you are better off driving.

WOW connieB good break down

700 might be possible with my budget I'm still checking the fine print. I figure of I can do WDW on 800 then I can do the land on 600. Not sure if my math is correct but hay I figure some pixie dust might happen.

Considering the driving to save pennies but my car is brand new and I kinda like it all shiny and dent free

Since you just got back from WDW, why not save up for a few more months so that you can get 3 (or even 4) days in at the park? Transportation costs would stay the same, tickets would be just a bit more...only the hotel would be a substantial increase.

There are ticket deals that pop up at certain times of the year (everyone plays for the kid price, 5 for 3, etc), though I don't know when. Targeting one of those deals might allow you to add a day or two to your trip.

I did fing flights for 59 bucks each way but they would be at weird times.

For example laving PHX at 8:00 pm on Monday and then returning on Wednesday at 6:45 am. :scared1: Yipes way to early

Also I wouldn't fly into LAX more likely I would fly into SNA. That airport is smaller and should be quicker to hotel also.

I found what may be the best deal ever on SW but not sure.

Here it is:
fly to SNA Sunday 10/10 at 9:10 am
return to PHX Wednesday 10/13 at 6:45 pm
3 nights at Holiday Inn Anaheim Resort (I think this is close to DL)

all for 386.39 after 5% teacher discount :teacher:

Anyone know anything about that Holiday Inn???

So then I just need tickets and shuttle to hotel/disney.

I don't spend a lot on hotels, I don't "need" interior hallways. I have Days Inn & Suites on Harbor book for 4 nights for $285.

My food budget is at or less than $100. Breakfast at hotel, counter service only.

3-day Ticket is $186.

Driving so gas is $60.

So total, not counting extras is $631.

Well then for heavens sake don't take it to Los Angeles....they make Phoenix drivers look like old grannies! And you know you take your life into your own sweaty palms every time you merge onto I10 around here! I grew up in Califronia but after living here for 15 years I get freaked out for the first day or two with the wild LA freeways, lol. Then it all comes back and I'm diving across lanes and driving 70 within inches of the car bumper in front of me just like the rest of them!

A really nice hotel for the price. I don't see any free breakfast so that will be an added cost. It's outside of realistic walking distance I would think at just over a mile though.

You always have the option of getting an ART pass for 3 days at $10.00.

LOL :rotfl2: I know, the I-10 is scary everywhere. I drove my old car to Tucson a few times and that was scary enough.

I thought the ART would be a good option for me. I also saw that Supershuttle only charges 10 bucks one way for SNA to hotel. Seems like a bargain to me. It costs 30 bucks one way from my house to PHX. WOOHOO this trip may actually happen after all.

Thanks for all your tips and thoughts SurfinTX :worship:
