I had bifocals at 15, so I do not understand the issue with them. Well, I do, but the sympathy is low.

My son started wearing bifocals at 3-1/2. They're not just for the old.
IMHO option, glasses (and shoes) are something that should not be skimped on. I mean, you don't have to get the latest designer frames, but go someplace that provides a quality product and will work with you to make sure it's right for you.
It sounds like you have multiple things that could affect your glasses (strong correction, prefer smaller frames, etc.) Better to go with someone good/local so you can get it to work. Bifocals are expensive, but your eyesight is worth it and you can save money other places if you must.
