Budget buster - bifocals!

I had bifocals at 15, so I do not understand the issue with them. Well, I do, but the sympathy is low. :)

Tell your kids to stop teasing you; if their own vision had gone floopy like mine did, THEY could be wearing them too!

My son started wearing bifocals at 3-1/2. They're not just for the old.

IMHO option, glasses (and shoes) are something that should not be skimped on. I mean, you don't have to get the latest designer frames, but go someplace that provides a quality product and will work with you to make sure it's right for you.

It sounds like you have multiple things that could affect your glasses (strong correction, prefer smaller frames, etc.) Better to go with someone good/local so you can get it to work. Bifocals are expensive, but your eyesight is worth it and you can save money other places if you must.

I agree on not scrimping on glasses! The difference between being able to see clearly and not is like day and night. :worship:

I have worn glasses full-time since I was 9 years old and have always needed a very strong prescription. It has been worth it to me to spend a little extra money to get the ultra thin lens, and when it came time to consider bifocals I bit the bullet for a pair of ultra thin progressive lens and have never regretted it! They were quite pricey :scared1:, but being able to see properly in all situations without thick and heavy glasses was worth it! The frame is still fairly small and fits my face well, so when it is time time get a new prescription I will probably just use this frame again.

Good luck with your decision - I know it's hard to spend money on things like this but sometimes its worth it to spend a little more on something to make sure you are happy with the result.

Good luck, OP, getting used to new glasses. I had a hard time getting used to bifocals myself & a coworker saved the day!! She suggested trifocals. I went back to the glasses place & asked about it & they made me new lenses. I don't remember what the difference in price between bi & tri but what a joy it was!! I had no problems getting used to them. Apparently for those folks using a computer who need clear vision at about an arms length, trifocals are the way to go.

The glasses I have now never were quite right & I'm going to be searching for a new pair. I rarely use the bifocal part & do all my reading with the middle vision part of the lenses. Thanks to this thread, I know more what to look for when I get new frames. We have insurance that will end soon when DH retires so it will be interesting to see how much we'll have to pay vs cost without insurance.

I hope you find an option you are happy with, I adore my tri's. I wish I had appreciated my eyesight when I was young!
