Well, let me say first that I am not a football fan, Boston Red Sox and baseball only...so I NEVER was looking at the right spot all night. It got comical.
My boy was soooo excited, sat with the band in the end zone band area, played cheers, and got on the field at half time to play three numbers...the most important was the school pep song.
The stadium is quite impressive, and just the fact that there is a stadium amazes the Bay Stater in me. We had a field and brought folding chairs!
The game was close, but the home team did lose.
The other team's band totally outclassed ours, they moved around, had more modern pieces to play, and were showmen. Ours is in the imfamous rebuilding phase, hence the encouraging the Jr. Highs.
My son is musical, and played well. He was praised by his last year band leader, and is finally seeing that playing in the band and being good is a social acceptable thing. It didn't hurt that dozens of young girls hugged him all night. So I am sure he is all in!
Now, my cultural moment...our team has a mascot and some cheers that in my upbring would be considered in poor taste. I have always lived in areas with native american histories, and we did not have tomahawk cheers or wearing of feathers. I must admit being a bit taken aback. It was certainly not done with evil intent, but still I was uncomfortable. Think back to the Atlanta Braves and the fuss about the chopping cheer. They do that same one here. I need time to process all that stuff.
Mike, I have no earthly idea how to post pictures. If I figure it out I will, they were so darn cute, and so in earnest. Music at its amature best...all heart.
