Does anyone bring bubbles to entertain your kids during waits? I thought it would be something fun for DD.

Ok, don't get mad, but I really don't like kids blowing bubbles in line. Maybe that's not what you're refering to?

Several years ago, while waiting in line, a couple of kids were blowing bubbles. The bubble were NOT going up, just over. Well, you can guess it... one burst in my DS3 face and he got bubbles in his eye. He cried, we dealt with it, but it really was unfortunate.

I also have to say that there were many other parents in line who were NOT happy about the bubbles at all. While we weren't rude, I have to warn you that others were pretty "snippy" about it.

One night time alternative is to buy cheap glow sticks. We buy ours at illuminationz.com. They are cheap enough that your kids can share them with other kids around them (like waiting for fantasmic, or fireworks, or parade). We did this and it was really fun and started conversations with other kids. But, of course, it only works after dark.

We pick up cheapie toys from Oriental Trading. I don't like the bubbles because I don't like getting sticky. I buy a few things in bulk and we share them with other kids (with parental consent) in line when things get longer than we expect.

my only thought is if your little one goes chasing bubbles, it is crowded enough to lose them in just a few seconds.

I didn't think of bubbles that is a good idea. For those that were snippy about it...I'd rather have bubbles in my face then smell the terrible gas that someone always manages to pass in a crowded area.

I took bubbles for the first time last year because of my nephew. It is something that calms him and we were not sure how he would do in lines. I didn't end up needing the bubbles in line but when we were waiting in the stadium for the lights, motor show we used them. It was raining and the kids were bored waiting for the stadium to fill up and the show to start. It was a big hit. The kids around us enjoyed the bubbles too.

The only other time we used the bubbles was in a the large area around Playhouse Disney. We were not in a line (I think waiting on the rest of the group to get out of the restrooms) and the kids needed something to entertain them. It also entertained some other kids nearby. I was carefully to watch how the bubbles were blowing in hopes to avoid getting any kids in the eyes with the bubbles.

The cheap glow sticks is a great idea too. We got ours at the dollar stores around us. We shared them with others while waiting for parades. It was a great treat for all around.

I wasn't planning on using them in line. I know it is too crowded with people. I am mainly thinking about waiting for shows or while the "big kids" are riding rides and DD is with Grammy.

While on the surface it seems harmless, I would be afraid that either spilling the mixture, or using them in a concentrated area, would cause a slippery walkway and a potential danger.

If you aren't going to be blowing them near people, have at it! Even in the grassy areas. I'd be afraid my wee one would bite thru one of the glow sticks. So suggest the hefty bigger ones if you get those. Mine at that age would play for ages with a balloon tied to the stroller, but of course, beware of a long ribbon.

I was refering to the sticks that you bend and then the "stuff" inside "glows". The previous poster is right, though, if your DD might put them in her mouth then it is NOT a good idea. You can find glow sticks at dollar stores and on-line on ebay. We get them through illuminationz.com. There are a few discussions on them right now on the boards. Try the budget board or do a search.

If you're doing the bubbles in "open" areas, it's probably fine. Maybe pack them inside snack size ziploc bags to try to contain possible leaks or "stickyness".

Just wanted to note - my daughter is allergic to certain bubble solutions. Even if you're in an 'open' area, those bubbles go somewhere, and if one landed on my daughter's skin, it could cause her to react with a nasty rash/burn shaped spot.
