Does anyone still blow bubbles at the sail away party? I haven't heard anyone mention it in awhile.

After reading about it, on our 1st cruise in 2001, I came prepared. I thought everyone would be on deck blowing bubbles. I didn't see anyone. I haven't brought them since.

We have had bubbles at each sail away party since we discovered DIS. I have 50 partyfavor sized bubble bottles for the kids (both young and old) on our Christmas cruise.
:boat:

Same with us....I actually bought 2 boxes of the wedding size bubbles and made labels for them with our name, the cruise date, ship name, etc. for our group....only a few of the kids blew them. I left the extra bubbles on one of the tables for anyone who wanted them and they were gone after a few minutes, but we didn't see anyone else blowing them.

I have not brought them since.

It probably depends on if you have kids... We brought bubbles for DS6 and he had a blast with them and shared them with a DISer's DD6 who was also there. I noticed another group near us where a few of the children had bubbles.

Although it isn't something EVERYONE is doing, we'll be bringing bubbles again next year since our DS really enjoyed using them. Actually, I'll probably also bring some extras for any other DIS kids that are there.

We didn't see anyone blowing bubbles on our last cruise.

I brought bubbles, had them in our carry-on. We boarded very late and missed most of the sail away party. Got out the bubbles anyway, were the only ones who had them, spilled them all over the deck loading the bubble blowers, poured bubbles in the wrong end of one so it didn't work. Kids cried because they both couldn't have the bubble blower. It was a bubble catastrophe, not a good way to start our trip. Won't be bringing them again.

I brought little bottles of bubbles for my DS5 and DD7 and even though we were the only ones we saw with bubbles...the kids were thrilled to have them! Can't tell you how many people came up to me to ask where we got them. I'm bringing them again since they've already asked me if I will be sure to pack them!
On the other hand...who could miss the bubbles since the party itself is so much fun!!!!!
I don't think you can lose either way!

Thank you all so much for your replies. I think I will pick up a box of 24 mini bottles of bubbles. I know my children will enjoy them and also they will like to pass out the rest of the bottles to others. I guess this too will ensure that we will not be the only ones blowing bubbles.

We were on the 10/16 magic and I saw a couple of people blowing bubbles at the going away party. You do it if you want and have fun.

Do they make the deck slippery? I thought they may be fun on the verandah, but will it just be a slippery mess?

We brought a few bottles last time. Our kids wouldn't do them, but we tried. It was so breezy out that the bubbles kept either popping before we could blow them or blowing back in our faces. It did get sloppy & a bit slippery where we stood.

We didn't really enjoy doing it, but we gave them away to some small kids who had a blast doing them. For that alone, it was worth bringing them. :D

We took bubbles last xmas and there were only a few people wiyh them. We asked Shirley to include them in our gift basket so they were there when we boarded.
We have no kids but my husband throughly enjoyed himself blowing bubbles. There was a definite knack to it and I think KIS is the word(keeo it simole)

We were on deck 7 aft during the sail away party. Someone must have been blowing a lot of bubbles, as we kept seeing them drift overhead.

I have bubbles on my list for our first cruise.

I am going with the individual champagne glass shaped bubbles.
Small enough not to take up too much room and shouldn't be messy.

You can find all sorts of shapes and size bottles on most party supply websites - usually with the wedding stuff.

Enjoy whatever you decide to do!!!

we have cruised DCL 3 times, and blown bubbles every time. To us, it is fun, and it really doesn't matter if others are doing it or not. 1 of the trips was with our children, the other 2 were not. On our most recent cruise, we took lots of extras, and handed them out to kids on the deck with us. It was a lot of fun, and the kids that we handed them to really seemed to enjoy them. Soooo, do what pleases you...it's your vacation!
