I can't believe there are two brush fires still smoking today after all the rain from tropical storm alberto. We arrived yesterday (Emerald Island) and immediately smelled smoke. There were 2 fires one on 192 and one near the MK that are still smoking after all the downpours in the past 24 hours. There are alot of blackend trees and you can still see the smoke rising from the ground.

That's because the fires here burn mostly underground, it takes a whole lot of rain to put them out. I had this explained to me but I still don't understand the concept! It's also why they can't keep them from spreading, they burn underground for days before anyone knows. Strange but true!

We needed about 6 inches of rain to put out the fires and we only got a little over 2 inches. The one by 192 has been burning since Friday.

Wow. I was hoping that the rain would help the fires. Makua, thanks for the interesting fact. I didn't know that either.

I heard about those fires. My friends are in WDW right now and told me about one surrounding Epcot, I believe. How scary!!
