BRP Rate Availability?

I'm going to WDW in late Feb/early Mar and debating whether to purchase a AP for room discounts (deciding between AKL and POFQ). But my understanding is that AP discounts are "based on availability" - and I don't think I can check availability at the AP site until I'm actually an AP holder. Is there any place to find out if AP rates are available before I purchase the AP?

Thanks for any insight...

I think you can call Disney reservations between 2-5 pm and they will help you with AP reservations.

I was persistent and kept calling until I got a CM who was able to make the ressie. I got AKL for $121 / night. And they got me a CRT ressie to boot! Man, I'll probably be an AP holder for life!!!!!

Did they sell you an AP at the same time? How did that work?

I'm interested to know how you go the reservation too, Oxfordcircus. Did you book the AP before/after finding out about the hotels? Do you mind sharing for what date it is?

(And congrats on that rate!)

And was happy to do so since I was saving so much money. My main concern was having buy and wait for the AP just to find out about prices and availability. I called and mentioned the 2-5 pm protocol, which the cm then read to herself under her breath. She then proceeded to give me prices and availability without first purchasing the AP. She wouldn't book the room until I bought the AP, but since she was able to sell me one at that time, I didn't have to wait to book.

that's interesting cause I called and just asked if there were any AP rates available and was told 'no ap rates for that time'

Check-ins on or after 2/16/06 are considered peak season. This means that AKL standard prior to this date is $135+ ($205-$70), but after the rate is $166+ ($299+ - $133).

I just booked POFQ for 2/22/06 and got a BRP quote of $111+, which is not bad considering rack at that time is $175+ for a standard view (we are going over winter vacation and have limited date flexibility).

There appeared to be availability at most moderates except Coronado and at most deluxes.

Sorry, but I am new to this, and a Brit too! I have an AP rate quoted from a TA for POFQ for 7 nights from 2/23/06 for $981. Even including tax, this appears more than what you were quoted for almost the same dates. Being best rate or BRP, does that mean it can change regularly? The quote was given 11/2. I have got quotes for AAA, the new package, and this (would have to buy AP, but it is just becoming so complicated trying to decide! :confused3

Can you also book "higher category" resort rooms at an AP rate, or does the AP discount apply only to standard rooms? For example, are there AP discounts on savannah view/deluxe rooms at AKL or water view/king bed rooms at POFQ?

Thanks so much for all the info!
