I want to do the fantasmic package and am wondering which of these restaurants is best. I wanted to do H&V but they dont have characters until dinner time and I dont know how close to the show it will be. Keep in mind I have two small children age 4 nd 2

thanks

I would suggest Brown Derby as it is a sit down restaurant. H&V is a buffet.
Neither restaurant is any closer then the other to the fantasmic area.

Brown Derby gets my vote. It's one of our favorites in all of WDW!

With children those ages I think H&V is a better choice. They play the Disney music even if the characters aren't in there. It's also much more reasonably priced. I wasn't impressed by Brown Derby on our visit and don't plan to return. My son (age 5) hated it.

While I prefer the food at Brown Derby, this is a signature and as such, the service pace can be expected to be just that; paced. Even for lunch, this is a leisurely meal. With children that young, OP, only you know if they are up for sitting for 90 minutes which is how long it will take on the fantasmic package with appetizer, entree, dessert.

While I would select Brown Derby every time over H&V, I don't have to contend with 2 preschoolers. I doubt that they would be able to handle the slower pace of the meals there.

Try and get a Fantasmic Package lunch at H&V. The earliest slot available. And just don't go with really high expectations about the quality of the food.
