I just booked Brown Derby for my DD's 18th birthday. The menu and food pictures that I could find certainly look good but I haven't seen anything real recent nor a lot of reviews.

Does anyone have any comments, good or bad, they'd like to share.

Also, I have also read and re-read the cake chatter thread and can't seem to find much on cakes that come from the DHS bakers. Any review on that?

My dd, a bit older than yours, loved Brown Derby when we went in January, as did I. Food was great, service was better. I had the oyster & brie soup (we weren't on the dining plan). She had a taste of the soup itself, but no oyster - she hates seafood. She pronounced it very good. Well, apparently our server had been lurking nearby because not three minutes later, a cup of soup (no oysters) appeared at our table, no charge!

It's one of only 2 restaurants that my daughter asked to go to again; Jiko was the other. She even preferred Brown Derby to Le Cellier!

There are many negative comments on here about Brown Derby but we actually enjoy it. We've eaten here 5 times and have always had a good meal. My favorite dishes that I've had here are the scallop and pork belly appetizer and the seared ahi entree.

However, I must add that this is a bad value if you are on the dining plan as it takes 2 credits per person and the prices do not justify that. We have the TIW card and do not do the dining plan so it's not an issue for us.

We loved Hollywood Brown Derby on our last trip! It's a nice quiet break from the craziness of the park outside. DH requested for our next trip that we eat here and California Grill. Nothing else really mattered to him! Of course it's not as good of a value on the dining plan as some other restaurants but you'll get much more out of this experience than the cost of the meal.

I never do the dining plan so it is not an issue.

We did have a reservation for Jiko for that night but just reading about it was "underwhelming" her. I'm sure it would have been fabulous but she was just not feeling the love for it and, well, it is HER birthday.

We ate at Brown Derby two weeks ago for the FDP and it was wonderful. Our DU TA made the ADR for us and she made sure they knew it was my brithday. Prior to us deciding on dessert, which was included in our meal, our waiter brought out a fabulous chocolate mousse with a lighted candle. Though waitstaff do not sing at the tables, my DDs sang Happy Birthday to me! It really was a fantastic way to celebrate my birthday on our girls' trip! :thumbsup2

We ate here last year and loved the food. We did get my son a birthday cake...this restuarant I did not get him a special cake...I just got him the 12 cake...it was good. But when I order a cake for Hollywood and Vine I did order a specail cake (I think if you get a special cake its min of 8 inch cake...it was really good...but that specail cake can be set up at any HS dinning). Call the cake hotline. hope this helps.

Have you checked out the "have lunch with an Imagineer"? Its held at the Brown Derby and I think that would have a 'wow' factor as well!!

(you could use the search here - it was a thread I read here I think I remember it costing $65 and was at the Brown Derby - just a thought)

Me and DH went there for the first time last May and loved it. We were seated promptly, the booth was comfortable and the service was excellent. We split the Brown Derby Cobb Salad for Two and it was the most flavorful and different cobb salad we'd ever had. It took me a few tries but I learned to make it at home. That's how much we liked it. For the main entree I had the duck course. Delicous. Ooooo I'm drooling now:love:
Have a wonderful time.
