We are about 60 days from the opening, does it stand a chance. I for one think the previews are pretty good. I think this will be the test for traditional animation. Any guesses as to the opening?
I'll say 45 Mil, riding the coattails of PofC and Nemo.

I really couldn't venture to guess, as I don't know what it's up againist.

Frankly, I think it looks very interesting. I don't get what all the nasaying is about. It's an original story, right? It probably teaches a lesson and the music sounds great (ok, i like Phil Collins).

Looking forward to seeing this movie this holiday season!

BB is only release scheduled for 11/1. But 11/1 is on a Saturday...What gives?

the friday night is Halloween, and apparently they don't want to go up against trick or treating, and just going for a two day weekend - no one really knows how that is going to work out for them, but I don't think it will be a 45 million weekend -

I'm fairly sure, but not positive, that they have again moved the opening to Oct 24th!

If Bear is THE test for traditional animation, then the future doesn't look good. More like a test to see if Disney can pawn a lower quality, thrown together, Lion King wannabe on a public that still equates quality with Disney feature presentations( possibly thanks to the quality rich Pixar films) If I'm not mistaken, wasn't this cartoon supposed to be released NEXT year initially? With the recent quality of Disney feature presentations which were released without rushing them, don't expect a whole lot. Bear could do well the first weekend based on Nemo's coatfins but once word of mouth starts, watch out! BTW, kids under 10 will probably love it. My daughter loves Lion King 2. Adults will probably count the rip offs of the original LK.

I also remember seeing an October opening date. This is one movie I'll be taking DD to see.

blackshirt, why so gloomy? Haven't you paid attention to the other Disney movies this year? Pretty phenomenal for a division thats not even supposed to be a player in H-town! And IMO the rest of the year will be very good. With POC (which looks like 300M now) I have great hopes that HM will be one of Eddie Murphy's good movies and not one of his dogs (it looks funny and little kid scary to me). The Dennis Quaid thriller looks very good. Duplex with Ben Stiller looks like it could be 'Something like Mary'-esque (from Miramax) and I think Brother Bear looks like a good original story with (hopefully) good original music & a good voice cast- Which I think will spell winner!

As we've learned it's all about quality AND the particular likes and dislikes of the viewing public. Disney has been beaten up quite badly until this year but with the success of kid friendly Disney flicks Freaky Friday and Spy Kids 3-D and the complete failure of Dreamworks' Sinbad I think the time may be perfect for Brother Bear...

Pirate,I agree with your view on Disney films as a whole. They have had a great year. I saw Lizzie with my daughter(It wasn't an option, No would not be accepted) and it was pretty good. I held out successfully on Freaky Friday but it has been doing extremely well. When I post about Disney films, however, I mean animated films. And in this regard Disney has failed IMO since Tarzan. Lilo and Stitch was all right, IMO, but plot wise resembled a Saturday morning cartoon. The rest have been neglected in one way or the other and are all but non existent in my memory. I will add that this is because Disney raised the bar so high in the early and mid 90's. Only Pixar is able at this point to compete at such a high level.

The October date is for New York/LA only. The movie will then expand on Saturday, November 1. Its only other competition that weekend will be the rerelease of Alien. However, 5 days after, the third Matrix opens, and then 2 days after that comes Will Ferrell's "Elf" which I think looks very funny.

Nevertheless, while I think Brother Bear looks really good, I don't think it will do well. While it won't be a bomb of "Treasure Planet" or Dreamworks' "Sinbad" proportions, I just don't see it being a big hit. While there's still time for buzz (good or bad) to build, I'd say 60 million looks to be about it for "Brother Bear."

It looks great to me based on previews. I'll be there whenever it opens to see the Mooses!
