Day 4 - October 17, 2005
We didnt set a wake up call for this morning because it was 2 AM before we all got to bed. We had such an amazing night last night at MNSSHP. The little guy slept in, but was up by 7:30 AM. DH and I got ourselves ready and dressed the little guy too. We were heading to Typhoon Lagoon for the day, then we planned to hit Epcot for the evening since they were open until 9 PM. We all dressed in our swimsuits and our Dis October Surprise T-shirts designed by OKWOODSMITH. We knew that the big Nosh Around the World DIS meet was at Epcot this morning/afternoon and hoped that we might run into some strays once we got to Epcot.
After everyone was up and dressed we headed to the Pop food court for some breakfast. We hadnt eaten at the food court yet and it was an experience. It seemed that everyone wanted an item from a different food area and each area had long lines. Kitchensink guy took Stitch and waited for Mickey Waffles. I took the little guy and missing tooth kid and waited for 2 orders of child pancakes. We paid for those and Kitchensink Guy took them to a table. I got in line for the breakfast meals and joined the crew about 20 minutes later. We finally finished our meals and headed back to the room. We grabbed what we needed and loaded the VIBE and headed for Typhoon Lagoon. We had done Blizzard Beach on our previous few trips so the older boys didnt remember anything about Typhoon Lagoon and the Little Guy had never been. We were there before opening and parked about 4 rows back. We had one plus day left on an old ticket so I had to purchase one day tickets for 2 kids and one adult. That was quick and we were in the water park in no time. We decided to find chairs in the kiddie area as the little guy was too short for the big slides so we would be spending a lot of time here. Kitchensink Guy and Stitch headed off to try the new slides. We had measured Missing Tooth kids and while he was 48 inches tall in the Theme Parks he was just shy at the water park as he wasnt wearing his sneakers. He was upset, but being a good sport he stayed with the little guy and myself and we explored the kiddie area. The boys had fun and Kitchensink Guy returned with Stitch so quickly that I thought they missed the ride. Turns out there was very little line. I think they did the banana blaster. Kitchensink Guy took over the kid watching and Stitch and I headed over to try out the Pineapple Plunge and what is that other slide called? I just went and found my map and low and behold the Crush N Gusher attraction isnt on the map. Well anyway we did those 2 slides with little to no wait. We decided we liked the Pineapple Plunger best. We headed straight back to the crew over at Ketchakiddee Creek (Remember I now have the map in front of me so I can name things rather than calling it the kiddie area). Turns out the the little guy had made upteen trips down the short raft ride and was carrying the raft by himself.
We decided to go on Castaway Creek (to me it will always be the Lazy River). We head in that direction, but Kitchensink Guy needs a restroom. While hes gone we see that the line for the family raft ride (Gang Plank Falls) is not too long so we decide to do that first. Once he joins us we get in line. It moved quickly and we let Kitchensink Guy carry the raft by himself. It was a lot of fun and took the little guy a bit by surprise after the tame rides he had been doing. He loved it though. As a side note I have had him in the water since he was 9 months old and he loves to put his head underwater and is beginning to swim without floatation devices. I used to teach swimming lessons eons ago. I have him jump in and come to the surface then swim back to the side with little assistance at this point. If he is wearing his arm floaties he will jump off the side, diving board or pool side and swim all day. The older 2 are great swimmers now, but they didnt get into it until they were around 5 yrs old. Ok, enough bragging and back to our trip. We loved the family raft ride but opted not to wait to do it again. We found an entrance to Castaway Creek, but there were like 20 people in line for a tube. There was however a kid tube, you know the ones that have the bottom in them, so we opted to put the little guy on it and the rest of us got in without tubes. We swam/floated for a few minutes then came upon all kinds of empty floats. We all found ourselves one and floated along. The little guy would not allow us to hang onto his float as he is a big boy and doesnt need help. I made sure to stay within a couple of feet of him, but he had no problems even though he tried pretty hard to flip it over. We floated around the loop one whole circuit and most of a second. I noticed the Happy Landings Ice Cream shop so we exited near there and bought one of those huge sundaes that are served in a kids bucket with the little shovel. We shared the sundae. The little guy and missing tooth kid didnt eat much, but the rest of us had our share. I went back and got a water. The kids took the shovel and found some sand nearby to play in while Kitchensink Guy finished the Sundae. The little guy asked to fries so I went to get him some. Actually I got 2 as I knew the other kids would help him eat them. I had bought one of those waterproof plastic containers that you wear around your neck as we entered the park. It was perfect for my Room Card and our tickets. When we needed something there was no running back to the locker. We actually didnt get a locker because we only brought 3 towels from the resort and our shirts, shoes and diaper bag.
It was a hot day, In the mid to high 80s again. When we finished eating we decided to head to Shark Reef. The boys had seen it on the planning video and wanted to try it. This was the only attraction that really had a line. They only had one side open so we waited 30 min or so. I took the older 2 kids and kitchensink guy took the little guy to the shipwreck area to look at the fish and watch us. I used up a lot of our wait time adjusting the kids face masks. They are all one size and really dont fit little faces that well. About half way through the line my middle son yells something and begins looking frantically on the ground. Whats wrong? Apparently when he pulled the snorkel out of his mouth he also pulled out a tooth. We found the tooth on the path. He was so excited. That tooth had been very loose for weeks, but he insisted that he didnt want to lose it until we were at Disney. He had been showing anyone that would look how loose it was. Everyone told him that if you lose it at Disney the Tooth Fairy leaves you more money than at home. Id like to take this opportunity to thank those of you that told him that little bit of info. After showing anyone within earshot the missing tooth I put it in my waterproof container around my neck. Missing Tooth kid spots Daddy over by the shipwreck and yells until Daddy knows what happened. By now it is our turn. We listen to our instructions and I get the kids gear on and then my own. We are set to go, Stitch plunges in. Missing Tooth kid stuck his toe in and decided it was too cold. I decided he was wrong and pushed him in. That just made him mad. The took the chicken out exit. This turned out to be a good thing. Stitch and I headed into the reef. Stitch had trouble keeping the snorkel out of the water and kept getting mouthfuls of water. I ended up holding him at the top of the water across the whole tank. It was neat seeing the different species of fish. We made it across without the lifeguard having to retrieve Stitch. Way to go SuperMom. Kitchensink guy and the boys meet us at the exit. It is now his turn and he asks Stitch to go with him. I tell him not a good idea as he had had some trouble. Kitchensink guy is more of a sinker than a swimmer so it wouldnt have been a pretty picture. He gets in line by himself. We explore the shipwreck for 15 minutes or so then find a small sandy area. The little guy had been carrying his bucket and shovel since the sundae (we did rinse it of course). He started to play in the sand and a baby girl wanted to play with him. He loves babies so he handed her the shovel. She wanted the bucket too. He wasnt too sure that he wanted her to play with it, but finally let her use it. She however did not want to share and cried every time he touched the bucket or shovel. The mom was less than helpful. I was proud of him for sharing. Once kitchensink guy got into the water I had the Mom extract the bucket and shovel from the little girl and we went to watch. We met up at the exit again. We decided to try the wave pool. The waves were huge. I had to hold onto the little guy when the wave came in and when it went back out as he was like a bobber. Kitchensink guy took the older two into the deeper water. We played for 10 minutes or so then decided to head back to our chairs. We waded through the shallow water around the pool and eventually came to the Bay slides. They tried those for a few minutes. We had to grab the little guy as he came off because he had difficulty regaining his footing, but once he was back on his feet he climbed up again. I was letting him go under each time he came off and he never swallowed a drop of water.
We finished up there and made it back to the chairs. I told kitchensink guy to take the older 2 and do whatever slides we hadnt done yet. The little guy and I went back on the Lazy River, I mean Castaway Creek. We floated around once then got off. We could see that Kitchensink Guy wasnt back yet so I let the little guy go on Keelhaul Falls and Mayday Falls. There was no height requirement so I set him on a raft and had the lifeguard start him after I went down. I jumped off at the bottom and grabbed his float as soon as he came down. He never flipped off, but he made the lifeguards a little nervous. We did this several times then headed back to our chairs. He spotted kitchensink guy and ran to get him. Apparently they needed to try his newly found raft rides. We all went down again and Kitchensink guy couldnt believe that I had let him go on these. Im not sure why he was surprised as this is my 3rd son and Im not nearly as protective as I was with the first. Good thing were done having kids or who knows what they might get to do. Skydiving? Oh yeah, back to the report.
We decide that we should leave as the Little Guy hadnt had a nap. Stitch was disappointed as he hadnt been able to do the Humunga Kowabunga. They had had Missing Tooth Kid with them and he was too short. I was adamant that we leave so with protest we headed for the exit. Just before the exit, SuperMom had a change of heart. Stitch hadnt been able to do the big slides at Blizzard Beach last year because the lines were 1+ hours long. I decided to take the little two out to the car and let Kitchensink guy and Stitch do the big slide. They took off and we briefly looked through the store and headed for the car. We found it easily and loaded everything in (not much this time). We sat there for enough time for the car to cool down and Kitchensink Guy and Stitch joined us. There was no line for the slide so they got down very quickly. Stitch loved it and was proud of himself for doing it. What impressed me the most was that he didnt rub it in to Missing Tooth Kid as he had wanted to go too.
We went back to Pop and had a quick bite to eat in the room. We had decided that we would catch Fantasmic tonight instead of going to Epcot because we might go back to MNSSHP on Thursday night which was our Fantasmic night.
The little guy took a brief nap in the car on the way back to Pop and that was it. We showered, dressed and fed and headed out. We got to MGM and headed straight to Fantasmic as it was after 6:30 PM and the show was to start at 7:30 PM. They were seating quite far over in the stadium, buy a CM said to try the other areas if we liked as there were still some good seats available. They were right. We found some wonderful seats to watch our absolute favorite show.
Im not sure that the little guy remembered the show from last year. When everything was at its worst for Mickey the little guy grabbed Daddy and said we better get out of here. Kitchensink guy is still laughing about that now. He told the little guy that Mickey would save the day. The boys all love this show and we never have behavioral issues here. The little guy watched the whole show and loved it too. We were herded out with the rest of the cattle and headed back to Pop.
The kids worked on their homework and drifted off to sleep. Kitchensink guy was not far behind and I watched the weather channel and the Disney Resort Channel until I finally fell asleep. The weather channel was announcing that a Hurricane was heading our way and would be hitting the south coast sometime on Saturday or Sunday. This could be a problem as we are to fly out of Tampa on Sunday afternoon. It was too early to make any decisions.
I need to add here that my children become very loveable on vacation. When they are happy they want to hug us and tell us repeatedly how much they love us. The little guy has to have eye contact when he talks to anyone. He actually will grab your face and turn it towards his before he talks. He wants to know that he has your complete attention. I cannot tell you how many times he would tell us that he loved us and his newest thing on this trip was to out of the blue announce that he was happy. There is nothing in this world that can make a vacation more worthwhile than having a 2 year old announce that he is happy just out of the blue. At times it brought tears to my eyes. I cant remember the exact moments that he said it or what we were doing, but he did it several times a day every day of our trip.
