This morning in our hotel room in dalton, ga (ON OUR WAY TO DISNEY) I tripped over my 2 year old and badly stubbed my toe.

Well now, I think it's broken....it hurts badly and is purple.

If I was at home, I'd probably just self medicate, but that seems daunting while staring down a week in Disney.

What would you do? Hit up urgent care? Self medicate? Cry? Anyone know if Walgreens Healthcare Clinics will give me pain medals for the broken toe?

There's not much to be done for broken toes, unfortunately. If you have diabetes or any sort of chronic illness affecting the bones or nerves, see a doctor. Otherwise, an urgent care will most likely just prescribe you non-narcotic pain meds and buddy-splint the toe. Be prepared to ice it as often as you can in your hotel room, and I hope your shoes fit well.

PP has pretty much said what I would have. I'm regularly sprinting or fracturing my toes. I manage to always find just the right way to kick something lol. If you feel you need support you can tape it to the toe next to it if it's your baby toe. If it's the inside ones you should be fine. It's been years since they actively splinted or did anything for toes or fingers.

Comfy shoes will be a must. Don't be afraid to rent a chair or scooter if you need to for a bit. I do find that often that first day or two is the worst, then it's fine unless I ding it again (even lightly). Of course I'm not walking Disney miles right afterwards.

Good luck. Hope it's not as bad as you're afraid of.

Get some medical tape and gauze or cotton makeup applicator circles (no idea what their real name is) and use that for padding on your sore toe. Make sure you have plenty of room in the toe box or wear some sandals. Sit down whenever possible! Take some ibuprofen if you can for the swelling. Treat yourself to a cocktail later in the night!

ouch so sorry, been there done that more than once. As others have said, even going to a doc isn't going to help much. I broke my big toe the first day the first dive of a week long dive trip in Bonaire once. Thankfully there was doctor in our group so he showed DH how to tape it and told me to ice it every night, elevate when I could and take ibuprofen. I only sat out one dive, we did 4 a day, the whole trip. I can tell you jumping off a boat with dive booties and fins on with a broken toe isn't fun, I swam in circles a lot because kicking hurt. Wheel chairs are your friend.

Stop somewhere get some gauze or cotton and some tape and just tape it and pad it. I like others who have posted am an expert at breaking toes. Broke one last year just walking down the hall of my work place, didn't even hit anything, my foot just slid in my shoe! Anyway, I've done Disney twice with a broken toe. My best advise is to make sure you have some pain reliever with you and ware sneakers, don't let your toe open to the air to get kicked. If you need to take it a bit slower the first day or two there is no harm in that. I have to agree with drink part too! Have a great trip hope the rest of it is injury free!

Ok, looks like my first instinct was right. My toes are normally fine, but I have sprained my ankle falling off my shoe..... :-)

I shall drink my pain away :-). I wrapped it up and the support does help.

Hopefully the look on my foster daughters faces when we meet Sofia tomorrow makes my pain slip away!

Thanks for the advice!

IMG_20150905_0001_NEW.jpg I did this on my very first day of our Disney vacation. I went and got an x-ray at some urgent care place. Got a support wrap for it and dealt with my injury all week. I walked on it very carefully the rest of the week. I was not about to let it ruin my vacation. I ended up in a cast when I got back home. It was not broken, but had a severe sprain. I enjoyed my vacation anyway. Best of luck with your toe.

I broke two toes within 7 weeks of each other last year. The thing that helped me the most was buddy splinting. I had to do that for months. It's been over a year and the first one I broke (April 2014) still hurts if I hit it on anything. So, I've given up hope it will ever heal normally. Walking around in Disney in December was still painful but nothing like it would have been right after. I feel for you! Broken toes seem minor but they are very painful.
