Just got back from the doctor I guess I broke my foot while camping this past weekend. I was fine while hiking this was just falling over a tree root while walking back to the tent.

We're supposed to go to Disneyland in less than a month. Has anyone dealt with having a cast on and using A wheelchair lately? I am a little bit hesitant just because I'm a bigger girl and I know that people will judge that maybe I am being lazy. What do you think?

Please don't let what others think bother you! If you need a wheelchair to get around and enjoy your vacation then get one! The last thing you want is to be miserable at DL! I'm a big girl and I use a ECV due to a condition with my feet and I get looks and the occasional comment but I don't care! It's the only way I can enjoy my favorite place!!!

Ouch! So sorry that happened to you. :(

I'll say this the nicest way I know how...screw what other people will think! You have an injury and a valid reason to use a wheelchair. If someone wants to judge you based on their own misconceptions and bigoted values that's their problem, and how sad for them that they live that way. I know it's an awful feeling to feel like people are judging you based on your size but please don't needlessly suffer due to other people's ignorance.

Also, if they're too blind to see the cast on your foot...that's another problem entirely! :magnify:

I would suggest that you skip the wheelchair and rent a scooter, that way you don't have to rely on someone pushing you anytime you want to go somewhere. The scooter will give you freedom and help reserve your stamina so that you can enjoy your full time at the parks. There are tons of people at the parks using mobility aids. Do what YOU need so that you can enjoy your trip. Honestly, I don't know how anyone tours the parks on crutches. I would think that would be beyond exhausting.

You can pick up a booklet for disability information that will explain touring the parks with a mobility device. That can be very helpful!

Sorry you broke your foot. Have a great trip!

I suggest a scooter as well. I also will suggest using an outside company so that you can take it back to your hotel too. Apple scooters are much cheaper and they have free delivery to and from your hotel.

Rent a scooter (we use Deckers) and enjoy your time. Who cares what other people think it's about enjoying your time. We get the looks sometimes too because if my Mom decides she wants to walk for a bit one of the boys will ride her ECV, but she still needs to have it. I just laugh cause if they only knew how much you really don't want to be in the ECV they would feel bad instead. Just SMILE!!!!

So sorry you broke your foot! I just got back from my trip and I had to use an ECV for the first time. I am very small and don't have an obvious reason like a cast, but using an ECV was the only way I could even make the trip due to health issues. It did seem weird using it and sometimes I wondered what others were thinking, but mostly I didn't care. I was just so happy to be there!
The CMs are so nice and it was very easy to use the ECV for rides and shows. We even used the reserved viewing area for PTN.
Hope you have a wonderful trip!!!!

One other thing- I rented from Apple because their prices were so much cheaper. While the scooter worked just fine, it did not look so good. It was pretty worn.

I rent from ScootAround. I've always had good service and good machinery with them. I have a "license plate" that I put on the front of it that always gets a smile and positive comments from other guests and CMs. It really reduces any odd looks I might get. One of the designers on the creative boards made it for me. I print them out on card stock and then laminate them. I then punch holes in the top two corners and zip tie them to the basket. You could also add one to the back of the scooter. I just have too much crapola that I carry, so it wouldn't be seen.

This is the one I used for our two summer trips. I'm leaving it on my personal scooter because I really love it!

Love this!!!! Wish I would have made one! Much better than the giant rent me sign that was on there.

Thanks everyone! Just got back from the doctor and he confirmed that even if I get this boot thing off byDisneyland...I am not to walk on it very much by then.. (More like 8 weeks until I can do DL type of being on your feet all day walking)

So, scooter time for me!! Since I may not have my big a$$ boot on still by them I am taking your advice and making a license plate that says BRKN FT

Hopefully people may be more understanding.

Thanks so much!
Nancy

Check out the off-site scooter vendors. Having the scooter to get back and forth to the parks will be a lifesaver.

My DIL used one last trip due to plantar fascistic. When her foot was too bad to walk she hopped on the scooter and was able to keep up with the group. During the times she felt like walking a little, I took over the scooter.

I figure those people giving the "LOOK!" to scooter user's are just jealous.

Enjoy scoot'n around the parks.

First of all, if people judge you, they are actually feeling bad about their own selves and projecting on you! So don't feel bad. If anyone is lazy enough to get a wheelchair just so they don't have to walk, then that's on them, but I don't think that's a common occurrence.

That said, my nephew is 12yrs old and just went in May with a full leg cast and still had a great time. They rented a wheelchair and utilized the DAS and said it was really easy. The CM's told them which rides he could not load on (Matterhorn, Indy, Dumbo) and they even got their own boat on IASW and used the disability launch at Space Mountain.

I believe everything at DCA is ADA accessible so you should be fine!
Enjoy yourself :)
