Took our daughter to a birthday party and went roller skating. I fell and broke my ankle in 2 places. Will be in a cast for 6-8 weeks.

 My husband is recovering from a sprain. I cannot imagine how much more pain you must be feeling.

Sometimes breaks are actually "better" than a severe tendon and ligament tearing sprain.

Hope you heal fast and completely with no residual problems.

Now, the burning question... where in Ormond Beach is there a roller skating rink?

I feel your pain. I broke a bone in my foot last April and was in a hard cast for 8 weeks, then a boot for a few more. I also had surgery on it. I would suggest you get a scooter for people with foot injuries- I can't remember the name of it. I would have been really bad off w/o mine. The crutches were so difficult. MOst insurances will pay for the scooter rental.

I hope you heal quickly!!!

And hope you can still enjoy your trip

I hpe you didn't do what I did, which was a severe ligament and tendon tearing sprain to go along with multiple breaks in both the tibia and fibula. Lots of pins and plates required to put it all together and I still have problems seven years later.

If your trip will be during the casted time or even shortly after, you should probably get a scooter. Just be aware that the Disney one's don't have any way to elevate your foot. So you get a lot of swelling at the end of the day. Personally, if I had someone to push, I would prefer a wheelchair that has a footrest extension so the leg can be raised. It is much more comfortable.

Been there, twice. I know the pain you are feeling. The first time was in the middle of summer, second middle of winter. Be careful when you go places and it is raining as your crutches can be slippery on tile floors (and awful on ice, but you are in FL and do not have to worry about that). Try to find a footie or strechy sock or cut one to cover your toes so they do not get cold. I hope you ankle feels better soon.

I am in my 8th week of recovery from a broken ankle (have at least 2 more weeks in a walking boot/cast). I can so empathize!! Glad you didn't have to have surgery on it!!!

Hope it's "only" the 6 weeks

I wih mine did....even for the knee scooter rental it wasn't covered.

Been there, done that-but mine was from volleyball. I had more pain when I had sprained the ankle 15 years before I broke it. The doctors wanted to cast the sprain but couldn't because of the swelling. the break was easy compared to the sprain.:confused3

Ok, I figured out my knee scooter was called a rolleraid. I have hardwood floors, so I rolled all around easily.

Ugh. I feel for ya. I broke my ankle about 4 years ago while running after Christian--he was making tracks for a cliff! Stepped in a hole and POP! Thank God there were other family members with us--enough to round up Christian plus take care of me. I had hairline fractures in both the tibia and fibula. In a non-weight-bearing cast for 6 weeks. Oh, and did I mention that this was 7 weeks before our big family trip to WDW?

Continue to ice and elevate your foot. Whether the ankle is broken or sprained, that is a very painful injury and it can take months to get back to normal. So don't push it. Let yourself heal in your own good time. :flower3:

Ouch. I've done it twice. Not fun. Only tip I have is to be sure and follow through with the physical therapy after your cast is off. I never did with either break and really wish I did.

Hope you feel better soon.

I broke mine right before our Christmas trip to WDW..didn't go to the doc and walked on it at WDW all total about 3 weeks!!

Well, when we got back fro the world it was so swollen I had to be on steroids, at this point it doesn't feel like it will ever heal.

The faster it's in a cast and you are off of your feet the better. Good luck!!

I broke my ankle in two places back in September '09. Was in a boot for 6 weeks. Way less pain than a sprain (after the initial fracture of course). No problems now except it still swells a little bit. I even walked all over the Biltmore property in December with only a little difficulty going down stairs.

Just be sure you do your physical therapy afterwards to regain your range of movement. :-) Hope you heal quickly!

Hope you feel better. My 6 year old son broke his leg last week. He is in a full leg cast and doing pretty good now. Thankfully they have a wheelchair at his school for him to use.
