Posted this also over on the community boards. Any reviews and do you find that this is a "budget" way to go. I am a bottled water snob, but they raised the price and put a deposit on the bottles, so it is getting to be too much of an expense to budget.

I really could use some reviews and thoughts on the systems. Thanks.

PUR all the way! The Brita one kept blowing off our faucet. The PUR one is much more secure and had a better system for attaching it to the faucet. We too were bottle water snobs til we got this.

Flavored or plain and how long do your filters last?

I drink 4 bottles of water a day
make a huge container of sun tea every couple of days
DH - pot of coffee a day
2 kids - would drink more if it tasted better
Plus cooking....

I guess I go through an average amount of water per day.

Price out the filters of all the systems because that cost is the one that will bog down futher use!!

There is a new system called Zero, Zero Zero.

I've had Brita water pitchers for the last 12 years and love them! The refill cartridges can add up cost wise but will last a month or longer depending on how often you refill the pitcher. Mine has a reader on it that informs me as to how much longer I have until the cartridge needs to be replaced, which is nice as I often forget to change it and don't remember to do so until the charcoal starts to filter out.

Our filter tends to last us about 3 months. We do use it for daily coffee, cooking, and drinking a few large glass bottles a day. We also make iced tea at least twice a week. No flavorings. Just the basic system. It blinks with a yellow light as a warning to change, then to red. When its good, it blinks green when you turn it on. The nice thing is that it doesn't filter unless you flip the knob...so washing my hands, etc we use non filtered water.

We found WalMart the cheapest place for filters. We got our system I think at BJs wholesale club. They have a good price on filters too
