Bristol Palin announces pregnancy

I can't help but giggle. The way some choose to ridicule a young woman for getting pregnant. She's vilified for having values. Bristol fell short, like soooo many do. I applaud her for taking responsibility for her actions. She didn't discard her children. Instead, Bristol is loving and caring for them.

I am not sure people are really "ridiculing" her. I would just say people find it very ironic that she preaches abstinence, etc. and finds herself pregnant out of wedlock not once, but twice. I don't have skin in the game, one way or the other, but when I first saw the news I chuckled and said, "how ironic."

I feel for her in some ways because she just can't seem to get her personal life and choices together. However, she chooses to make her living by putting it all out there so people are going to make comments.

You all can be bothered by her and the fact that she is paid for speaking about abstinence but it looks like she covers other subject as well. If people are willing to pay her to come and speak, just not sure why does it bother you, are you signing those checks? If she's making money doing this, obviously there are people out there who want to hear what she has to say, even knowing she has not abstained.

Anyone here ever been to one of her lectures?

ETA, she obviously knows she has disappointed people, or she wouldn't have put it on her blog. That to me doesn't sound like someone who just goes around saying things for money and doesn't care about what she actually does. But I guess you know her better than I do right?

However, did she earn the right to be free from criticism? She basically set herself up for all the criticisms she gets by being a public figure who preaches (and pledged future) abstinence until marriage.

Basically what it sounds to me as if she's trying to "protect the brand". It also seems that she doesn't really believe in what she's saying beyond the ability to make a buck off of it.

Sigh

I wish this line of thinking applied to everyone. Plenty of adult women "one the other side" are vilified for having children out of wedlock.

A 24 year old single mom, with two baby daddies, in an urban community, would not be viewed the same way as this chick.

No kidding. Certain media outlets have a field day with unwed mothers, and what it supposedly says about the moral decline of our country.

The reason could be this. One is gainfully employed paying plenty in taxes, will not be asking for welfare to pay for the birth of the child and help in raising the child. The child will have a good start and be ready to do well in school.

Versus, not gainfully employed, maybe never even worked. Pre natal care and the birth of the child will be covered by the tax payers, along with feeding and providing for the child and mother. Probably will receive EIC, ( do you understand how that works?) The child not being ready for school and becomes a burden for the school, and the cycle continues.

This might be what you are referring too. If so, sounds right to me.

Wow. I didn't realize you were close enough to the Palin family to understand the ins and outs of Bristol's tax returns (given that you assert she pays "plenty in taxes"). Lucky you!
