When I flew Song, even tho they come around with snacks, I always brought my own... do they care??? I felt like I do when I go to the movies...sneaky! But I know movies don't care anymore...

The airlines don't care if you bring your own food on the plane. I know Southwest even encourages it.

We bring our own also! Not that I'm cheap but sometimes a "nominal fee" just isn't that nominal ( especially for water)! :sunny:

One word of caution if I may...be careful about bringing any peanut butter. I love to bring a pbj with me, however, I've had two flights in the past several years where we were asked not to take out anything with peant/peanut butter in it due to a severe allergy. I still take one with me, but I make sure I have something else to eat, just in case!!

Not only CAN you bring snacks and even meals, but if the food is in a separate bag, as long as everything is disposable (including the bag), it won't count as a carry-on. Bring as much food as you want. We always do.

When I travel alone for business, I often stop at the food court before boarding and bring a meal onto the plane with me.

If it is a longer flight they usually make an announcement encourging you to bring food on board.

Well, the airlines don't care but where I live the movie theaters still do. They will throw you out if they catch it.

We do ..Even though we only have a 2 hr flight. By the time you figure in travel time and waiting time, the kids usually will need something. We ususally bring sandwhiches for us and lunchables for the kids. The ailrine doesn't say a word.

There is only one thing you can't do: BYOB. The rule is that any alcohol consumed on board must be served by the FA's. (It is OK to carry liquor on board, but you can't open it on the plane.)

It's perfectly fine to bring snacks, and even full meals. Please just remember to be considerate of others, and try to keep the strong odors to a minimum.

Once again, you beat me to it! I was going to point out to consider smells. Hot food smells stronger than cold food and of course there are some really pungent smells out there.

That doesn't mean that you can't bring a favourite meal, but consider a cold sandwich or salad, or if you need hot fast food maybe eat it before the flight if it is pungent. Smells become stronger in a small confined space with recycled air.

I can't stand the smell of ham, and I am almost sick to my stomach whenever someone opens a ham sandwich on a flight in the rows around me. I certainly wouldn't say anything, but just to show you that smells become stronger and seem to carry further in a small space.

I always bring my own snacks on planes. Even when airlines were offering food, I'd often bring my own (I used to be a flight attendant and there are only so many airplane meals you can eat without going insane). When I was working for the airline, I saw people bring all sorts of things onboard -- even whole pizzas! :)

Salad wouldn't help that much in my case, if it had broccoli in it, even raw broccoli. That's my big gag trigger, that and cabbage. For DH it is cucumbers. Everyone has something that's an "ick" for them, and I don't think it is worth trying to second-guess what a given person might find noisome, though Limburger and durian are things pretty much anyone could agree on, I think. ;) Peanuts are a special case, because those "fumes" can be life-threatening for so many people.

I don't find that hot/cold matters all that much (although there is something about the stale smell of McDonald's food that just lingers ...), but I find that what really matters is debris. Try to steer clear of meats with bones, or fruits with peels, etc. Anything greasy can become an issue, too, because it soaks into paper wrappings. The best strategy is to try to finish anything you bring on board, and if you can't, try to wrap it in something that seals, like a ziploc. (I always carry a couple of gallon ziplocs so that I can seal up anything I can't finish.) Disposable packaging is always preferable, so that any lingering odor ends up in a trash bag that gets tied shut -- and besides, who wants dirty dishes in a carryon bag?

Good point! Consider other people that have allergies, I wouldn't of thought of that at all :confused3

LOL gosh I don't need a meal, its only 3 hrs, I usually bring something simple like prezels or cookies.

Some food smell awful when you aren't the one eating it.. like McD's ICK!

Well I take snacks due to the fact that I am diabetic and have to eat at certain times in order to maintain sugar level.

We always bring food. The hardest part is when someone brings McDonald's french fries on board....boy the smell is everywhere and if you have little ones, they are not too happy that someone else has the fries and not them.

Our last flight on United, we were asked not to eat anything peanut related as someone on board had a peanut allergy. Of course we had a peanut trail mix with us, but we always have other stuff too.

As a parent that recently found out our 18 month old has an extreme peanut allergy, I'd like to thank those of you that are considerate about the airline's announcement of passengers with allgergies. We haven't flown since we found out she was allergic, so are apprehensive of our upcoming trip the end of the year. But for those of us that have to cope with such needs, THANKS!
