Bringing wine to the dining room - chill ahead of time?

We're bringing a bottle of wine on board with us on Friday to have with dinner one night (it was a gift and we're cool with the corkage fee). When I board, can I take the wine to a dining room to have it chilled in advance of our meal?

Yes. I'd suggest heading to the dining changes location to ask where to take it. It may not actually be the dining room you are in that evening.

We did this last year, and we just took it with us when we went to dine that evening. Chilled in the fridge in our room.

Oh nice. I couldn't remember if a bottle of wine would fit in the in room fridge. This is the first time we've brought wine.

I chilled my bottle of white Bordeaux in my stateroom fridge as well before bringing it down to dinner as well.

Ask your room steward and he will bring you an ice bucket and ice.

What if you have a glass of wine in your room and bring the open bottle to dinner, will you still be charged a corkage fee?

The first time you bring a bottle of wine (that you've brought onboard yourself) to the dining room, there's a corkage fee (regardless if they actually open the bottle or not). If you don't finish the bottle, they will keep it for you to show up in the next dining room - no fee after the initial one.

Correct, the corkage fee really has no bearing on the actual act of opening the bottle. It is a fee for bringing a non DCL purchased bottle of wine to the dining room. So, you will be charged the fee if they open the bottle or if you opened the bottle before you got to the dining room.

So to make sure I understand how this works, they charge a corkage fee for the first bottle of wine brought to the MDR but not any of the bottles thereafter?

No, each bottle will have only one corkage fee. If you don't finish a bottle in the first dining room (where you paid the corkage fee) then there's no corkage the next night (for the same bottle) to finish it.

If you bring a second bottle to the dining room, that will have it's own corkage fee.

All that being said, there have been reports where the corkage fee was not charged for some people.

I brought two bottles last time and I was charged twice for corkage fee. I finished each bottle over three dinners since I was the only one drinking the wine.

Were you charged twice each bottle? That should not have happened.

But once per bottle? Yep. If you took both bottles to the MDR, both would have incurred a one-time corkage fee.

I was charged twice, once for each bottle, over a 7-night cruise.

Which is as it should be if you brought on two bottles. Each bottle incurs its own fee.

I was not saying I was not supposed to be charged twice. I was telling my experience that each bottle you bring to MDR will be charged a corkage fee. If you bring two bottles, you will be charged once per bottle. If you can't finish drinking it over one dinner (in my case, three), it will still be charged only once per bottle. I was not complaining or anything. Just sharing my experience and answering a PP's question. I thought you wanted me to explain, so I clarified. That's all. :goodvibes

Gotcha. I was just clarifying that it was once per bottle. Maybe it's the early morning hour, but I couldn't tell from the original post if you were saying it was more than once per bottle. :)
