Bringing wine back with new flight regulations?

One of my coworkers is going to stay at my house while I'm at WDW to take care of my schih tzu. I want to bring her back something from WDW and know she loves Italy (has traveled there several times). She also likes wine so thought I'd bring her back some Italian wine. Anyway I have two questions:

1. Could someone suggest a good wine? I know nothing about wines.

2. With the new airline restrictions any suggestion on how to get it back home?

I do not like wine but tried this when we were at Alfredo's- brachetto d'acqui, it is the sparkling red. When we got home I called the manager of Alfredo's to get the name and had it shipped here.
Mmm good! I still will not drink other wine-yuk to me!

This poster is correct. I have friends who flew from Europe to the US on the day these new regulations went into effect. One had to ditch an $80 bottle of scotch that he was planning on carrying on. They also guzzled a small bottle of wine they were planning on carrying on while in line to have their carry-ons checked . So you will only be able to ship it or pack it in check luggage which doesn't seem like an advisable plan.

If you follow bicker's advise and have it boxed and bagged, you should be fine putting it in your checked luggage. I have transported alcohol this way before with no problems.

I've also put wine bottles in my checked luggage. As long as they are VERY well packed, you are fine.

I packed up a case of 12 bottles of wine on a trip from Chicago to Dallas in May (2 buck - from Trader Joe's). I wrapped each bottle individually, then placed it in the case, then wrapped up the case in bubble wrap. I placed it at the bottom of my rolling luggage and packed things tightly around it.

The only big problem was that 12 bottles of wine = a very overweight piece of luggage!

I'll admit, it was a risk and I was a teeny bit worried. But that is an extreme case. For one or two bottles, if you are super careful, you should be fine.

Any Disney store will ship anything you buy anywhere you want. I would not carry it on the plane. You will not get it through security. I would even be afraid to pack it. I would spend the extra money and have it shipped. I know nothing about wine!

I would double/triple bag it and make sure it was deeply padded in your suitcase.

when we went on our cruise with some friends, we had champagne in our room upon arrival (totally wasn't expecting it so it was pretty cool!). Some people in our group didn't drink theirs and my friend took it and just stuffed it in his checked bag. No plastic bag, nothing...just thrown on top. NOTHING was damaged enroute.

However!...my best friend went Europe last year and bought 4 bottles of Italian wine...she had it in the plastic shopping bag, but no securely sealed or padded by clothes. Every single one broke and damaged everything in her bag.

In my tunnel vision worrying about the new airline restrictions, I didn't even think of that. This past Dec I bought one of those big rugs in Morroco and the shop shipped it to me. I wonder if the wine store in Italy would do the same thing and guarantee the bottles would arrive intact.

Also does anyone have any idea how much that bottle of brachetto d' acqui would cost and if there is another good wine there? I would hate to bring her back just one bottle. My little fur ball is precious to me and I'd like to show my coworker my appreciation for taking care of her. Thanks!

Sorry - but unless they have changed their policy, Disney will not ship alcholol. We found this out after buying the very same wine mentioned earlier. They won't even send it to the from of the park for package pick up, so we ended up lugging the bottle around all day (of course didn't think to get a locker - noooo!) Anyway, I have talked to friends who have had wine shipped by going to an off-site shipping place if your states is one of those who allow alcohol to be shipped in (they don't all allow it).

I have also found the same wine at wine.com for a bit less. It is VERY good, though.

But I totally understand - I am running out of cute gift ideas for our kitty sitter - maybe a refillable mug for the next trip???

Actually, according to TSA, you can take up to 5 litres of alcohol less than 70 proof as carry-on as long as it is in an intact retail container. I assume that is unopened.

Just brought some on a flight from KC, so I know that from KC at least that's true. Good luck. -- Sorry, I saw a later post talking about flights from Europe ... UK at least had much more stringent requirements for quite a while including the exclusion of almost all carry-on. So if traveling to or from Europe there might be different restrictions.

Sorry, ntsammy5, but the TSA regulations have changed. You cannot carry the alcohol on-board any longer. It must be checked.

NO LIQUIDS OR GELS OF ANY KIND WILL BE PERMITTED IN CARRY-ON BAGGAGE. THESE ITEMS MUST BE IN CHECKED BAGGAGE.

I would have been upset if they had confiscated my Chivas.

We saw a few folks upset by confiscations during our trip this weekend, but not many. Seems most folks have gotten the message.

My wife did lose a bottle of nail polish. Of course, she had no idea that the bottle of nail polish was there in her carry-on, since it has probably been there for well over a year, so no great loss.
