We are going to Universal for the first time in August and was wondering what the policy is on carrying in your own water. I have a backpack cooler that can hold about 10 bottles that I've brought into Disney many times with no problems. Even with searching the bags, they are fine with it. Just wondering if this is ok at Universal. Thanks!

Well, will you be able to cram it into a small locker? US/IOA is a lot stricter about their bag on ride policy. I know for a fact that they make you put everything in lockers for Men in Black and Revenge of the Mummy (DH had issues with a locker not opening at ROTM and it was a nightmare with our digital camcorder in there). I don't know if I'd want to irk not being able to ride or being forced to pay for a large locker rental at the front of the park. I've brought in maybe one bottle, but 10 would be quite hard on the back!

you can bring water bottles into the park.

no glass containors/bottles are allowed.

the family locker in the front of the studios can be rented for the entire day.
you won't have to pay each time you open it.

what is not allowed in the parks from the website:

Prohibited items:

Picnic lunches
Food that requires heating or refrigeration
Alcohol and glass containers
Hard-sided coolers
Soft-sided coolers larger than 8.5" wide x 6" high x 6" deep
Coolers, suitcases, and bags with wheels
Please be advised that all bags and personal items are subject to inspection.

if your cooler size, etc, is not in the above prohibited things listed above, you are good to go with it in the parks.

No need to bring in water bottles!! They will give you free cups of ice water if you ask for it. :thumbsup2 Why lug all that stuff when you don't have to!

Why wait in line every time you want water if you don't have to?

We've had NO problems fitting our MaxCold backpack into a locker for MIB and FJ. It's lovely to have cold bottles of water at our fingertips when we want it!

Universal is FINE with bringing in food and water.

And there are plenty of water fountains to refill your water bottles all over the place.

I had a problem last week with bringing in water bottles. We went each of six days, and only once did this happen, and it was in the evening. The security person who searched my bag noticed that two of the bottles were not full (the kids had drunk some in the car). He told me that open bottles were not allowed, that the bottles had to be sealed, or be empty. He said we could step back and drink them, or dump the water in the trash.

My brother-in-law suggested that it might be because they don't want people to put alcohol in water bottles, and maybe that's more of a concern at the time we entered, in the evening.

Anyway, after that, we just made sure our bottles were completely full, and we never had another problem.

your bil is correct.

peeps have been caught bringing alcohol into the parks in open bottles ...
so open water bottles can not be brought into the parks.

Boy, I wonder what the security guard thought, then, when my 8-year-old took her water bottle and downed the rest of it!

Any other rides that you cannot take bags on? I have a son with special needs and need to keep his things with us- everything will fit in a backpack. He is 40" so those rides we will have to child swap, but I just want to be prepared for the ones we need to get lockers for if we ride as a family.

Yes you can bring in water though Im with the "just get free ice water" camp. I suppose it does beat waiting in line but I don't use a stroller to carry everything on and a backpack would kill me in this heat.

Universal is more strict with bags on rides. I can't remember all the ones that won't let you but you can check the websites. I know for sure the coasters wont let you.

Do they sell bottled water in the hotels that we can bring into the parks?

Yes they do.

I always take water bottles and sometimes they aren't full, never had a problem.

Was at Universal the week of the 4th. When we came through the parking structure the Orlando police made everyone throw out their water bottles. We finished our bottle and was able to bring in the empty water bottle. We have a collapsible water bottle which when empty fits in a pocket. Also, there is plenty of water fountains and my kids had no problem going and asking for a cup of ice water from the restaurants. I would not bring in more than 1 water bottle.
