My dd4 can not drink milk due to an allergy but drinks Pediasure. I'm pretty sure they won't sell it at the airport past security. Will they let me bring it even though the bottles are more than 3onz and she is not an infant? Thank you so much for the advice.

It won't fall under the exemption for babiels/toddlers but it May fall into the medical exemption.

In your case I would:

Scour the TSA website for information on the exemptions for medicines, (both OTC and prescription) and see if you can find something to include dietary needs ~ print it out. Consider getting a Dr. Note and bring the papers. Bag the Pediasure separately in a ziplock and only what is "reasonably necessary" for the flight and then declare it at the TSA checkpoint and hope for the best. Bring an empty sippy cup and get ice after security or from the FA.

However:

Depending on how long your flight is and if she can get by for a while with juice or water I would not try and bring the pediasure unless it was absolutely necessary.

I don't know how often you fly, I fly monthly at least and IMHO getting through the checkpoint these days is stressful enough, I would work on preparing your dd and knowing the procedures yourself and making things as easy as possible. I hardly even bother with a 3-1-1 bag anymore! I wouldn't complicate the procedure unless it was absolutely necessary. JMHO

To this I would add, if you decide to bring Pediasure, keep the seal intact and consider asking for a supervisor immediately. In all likelihood you will need one eventually.

My DS4 has a failure to thrive diagnosis and has a feeding tube. He basically survives on Pediasure,. We fly a lot and have never had a problem on the plane with it. We bring about 6-8 cans (in case there is a delay) and put them in a ziploc bag. When we get to security we just take the bag out of our carry-on & put it in the bin, we've never had a problem. We just came back from Mexico a couple weeks ago & we forgot to bag the Pediasure separately. They saw all the cans in our carry-on & pulled it aside for inspection. They took a look at it, asked if we had a baby & we pointed to our 4 year old & they sent us through. He drinks it in a bottle so we always have those with us too so I'm not sure if that helps, also he's very small for his age. If your child is big, they may have more of an issue with it but I doubt it.

we have brought juice boxes through security and have never had a problem... i do bag them separately (quart bag) but never made a big deal out of it and neither did anyone else... most recently it was juice and milk (shelf stable stuff) boxes and a 3yo (big for his age) and not a peep... however, they did swab them while i was getting shoes on, unfolding stroller, etc...

I asked my ds' pediatrician to write a script for the Pediasure (which I carried with me). Seemed like the easiest, surest way to not run into any TSA problems and the Dr. was happy to do it.

Thank you for your responses. I think I'll ask my pediatrician for a note. I'm sure he will give it to me. My DD does not really like food very much (sensory issues) and some days all she has is a few bottles of pediasure. I will make sure to put them in a plastic ziplock bag for security and hope for the best. It is not a long flight so worse case I'll give her a bottle before we go through security then as soon as we get there and get our checked bags give her another. Than you again and have a great weekend and wonderful mothers day.

make sure none in a sippy cup until after security. no open drinks from what i understand. if child sees empty cup could add to stress. also can not carry cup in hand must go thru scanner. child must go thru security empty handed. that coyld upset child.
