We plan to bring a laptop to WDW just in case my future husband receives important emails from the company during our honeymoon (hopefully not). We will be staying at the Polynesian and would like to know whether it is safe to leave the laptop in the room. Or is it better to leave it at the front desk while out in the park?

Thanks for your advise.

On our last two trips (10 days and 21 days) we left the laptop in the room and experienced no problems. We usually leave it in its case (which looks like luggage) and not lying around on the bed, but it's never been stolen. We were staying at ASMovies and AKL.

The safe in the room at the Polynesian is large enough to accomodate a laptop. Just lock it up.

we stayed at the wl over thanksgiving last year and left our laptop open on the table - never gave it a thought or had any problems, we took it to download digital pics off our camera and several times left the camera hooked to it in the download process while we went to the pool, housekeeping cleaned around it and never disturbed it once! :)

Well, I stayed at the GF for a little over a week, and left it on the table the entire time (never moved it). It was never touched by anyone except me. :) I guess I might have been a little too trusting, but nothing happened to it just sitting out in my room.

:)

My last 4 trips to WDW I have left my computer sitting out on the table and never had a problem.

Check if your laptop has a locking slot on the side. Mine does, I bought a laptop cable lock at Best Buy. The cable loops around a solid object (like the bed post or a table leg with a cross bar) and then into the lock slot, it has a combination cylinder lock. I always use it when I take my laptop for peace of mind.

We just returned from the Polynesian & kept the laptop in its carrying case, but out in the room. No one bothered it.

I used to lock my laptop in my suitcase, but honestly the last few trips I just leave it on the desk. It has never been touched.

We very frequently travel with a laptop and what we do is use a cable with a lock.

Some years back, we were at the Disneyland Hotel and had left a laptop with bell services (or whatever you call the place that will hold baggage). Unfortunately, I think it got dropped a some point because the motherboard ended up being damaged.

We took ours with us last Christmas/New Years while we stayed at WL and left it out. We do have a lock but never used it.

Both DW and I have done a lot of travelling with the old ball and chain and have never had a problem leaving it in the room. I tend to leave it open and powered up on the desk with the system locked via the screen saver to maybe scare someone off by needing a password to unlock the system. Yea, it's not really secure but it might cause them to take a second thought before borrowing it. I would prefer to not leave it in the case because if they wanted to borrow it, it would be quicker to just grab the case and take it vs. having to unhook the power supply and the modem/LAN cable and close it up.

I believe housekeeping is used to seeing these around. We leave ours open, connected and on the table in the room. I always wonder if housekeeping look at the screensaver and see the images of WDW 100th anniversary panning through?! LOL! My Laptop is VERY expensive, yet I'm never worried about losing it (or having it stolen). I carry it onboard in a samsonite rolling office. It's WONDERFUL having access to the internet when I need it! HAVE A WONDERFUL HONEYMOON..and CONGRATULATIONS on your upcoming wedding! ;)
